OK, why has he deleted his account? He was subjected to a bit of piss-taking (caravan, woman's work, perm etc) but no more than anybody else, and I can't recall any particularly virulent exchange recently so why has he flounced? Can someone who is still allowed on CWDF send him a PM and ask him? In the meantime, let's use this thread as a tribute to our fallen comrade. Looks like he has'nt been active over there since the 22nd Feb

To be fair, He will be missed. Whilst obviously he wasent always right he stood his ground and thought want he believed in. And tbh he did one out with some reasoned and balanced posts. And he could, Well it appeared he could take the banter. Why not just not come back why delete a profile. to be honest, I think as we get older, the internet just becomes a bit unnecessary. You then find you just drift away from it. 'Bye, Jenlyn!

I'm concerned something may have happened to Martin. I think it be a bit unusual to just delete yourself without telling the reason to your friends.
Have his posts remained? Perhaps he just wanted a break and to come back under a different name?
I quite like him, so I haven't wished the Curse of the Fox upon him.

Obviously his internet activity is his own affair, people can and do develop other interests and leave other activities behind, I just hope that he has not become poorly or something (as happened to PaulG2). It seems a bit strange to delete an account when all that is really necessary is to stop visiting a forum.

He's decided to stop posting. Deleting his account helps him to resist the temptation. On another non boat forum I've done similar, I still read it regularly and I'm often tempted to post but having drawn that line I've kept to it for over two years. I must have saved myself hours/days/weeks of pointless time wasting.

Forums are much like pubs - some you go in and like the atmosphere, some you go in and find they are a bit boring, some you go in and find that sufficient of the regulars (by no means all) are foul mouthed arseholes incapable of accepting other points of view, who often make it an unpleasant experience. It's not like you can anticipate this and walk away from a conversation, it can erupt in the middle of a chat about the most innocuous subject.
For my tastes, CWDF has got a bit twee and boring since the Moderators wars, TB is firmly in the latter category.
I keep looking in here but having persevered through the 'Boater lost his boat' thread I'm wondering if it really warrants it's space on the favourites bar.
MJG may well have gone through the same process and reached a conclusion.

It's a forum. Something idle to do when you have a free minute. I didn't realise such soul searching was necessary. When Telemachus upsets me, I just cry my self to sleep, and next day like an eager puppy, come back if I'm doing nothing else Rog

Not aimed at you.

Just imagine he has been to the loo, tucked the back of his kilt into his knickers and is unaware. We once had a bossy queen bee arts officer in Rochdale that this happened to, she left a meeting after getting up everyone's nose, went to the loo before setting out across town, no one told her!. It made no end of difference to my thoughts when she went off on one. Unless Nick travels combat stylee. We need to know, we need evidence too.

Nick just looks to antagonize, he succeeds and is more often than not rewarded with the response he set out to obtain. Rather like this thread and it's op.

Nick's a pantomime villain, and we all love him really. Let's be honest, he's utterly consistent. It'd be a shame if MJG doesn't return but, I'll try not to lose sleep Rog

I disagree, Nick tries to take an objective view, hovering above us normal mortals, and tries to debate unemotionally, sometimes playing devil's advocate (for sport?) Those who are hard of learning, fixed in an unquestionable viewpoint, can't cope and get nasty, lacking the ability to properly debate the issues.
