Having apologised for not knowing directions to a location I was asked for, I was told 'Well you're not much fucking use, are you?'.

My reply 'Possibly, but on the other hand I'm not lost' got me some 'operational advice'.

I wonder why ? as that was a very good answer under these circumstances, I'm sure that I would have said something quite similar.
