It's OK chaps, this is The Pit. Just watched this and thought it a pretty respectable video, if you like this sort of thing:

It didn't happen for various reasons, one of which was buying my boat but it's something I wouldn't mind doing some day.

I looked at that trip as well plus the Glacier Express in Switzerland but have never got there yet... I did a train journey to Prague and one to Budapest..enjoyed them

I just thought I'd show people something nice. I took the night train in 1981 from Oslo to Bergen but it was night and darkish; I had an hour at Bergen station then took the day train back. It was about 9 hours end-to-end then, probably still is. Now that I have driven a lot in Norway, that 'central southern area' too, I wouldn't mind making that train trip again and seeing the roads and valleys I know from the train window perspective. One of my ideas for this August is to fly to Bergen from the UK, take the train to Oslo, and fly back to Finland (very easy, trains go from Oslo station straight to the airport). I like mountains and 'scenery' and Norway is breathtaking (don't fall for the nonsense about it being super-expensive, food and petrol are only 10% more expensive than in Finland - and it's no wonder, must take a lot of fuel to get vehicles up and down all those mountains).
Anyone here could have a great holiday in Norway using their own car, and taking a tent with them, or sleeping in the car. Cheapest route is the Hirtshals - Larvik/Kristiansand ferry.

"Coastal Railways with Julie Walters" - gotcha. Hadn't heard of that before. Another Michael Portillo. How long before we have TV series 'Theresa May Takes to the Tracks' or 'Buffer Bojo Spouts Steam' or 'Lily Allen Up The Junction'?
