This has always intrigued me.
Does anyone on here know anyone who has chosen to have gender reassignment surgery ?
Its OK I don't want to be called Loretta but I was just wondering about it and thought it might make an interesting topic.
One of the potential problems I think could be whether to drive the boat or do the locks.
And who does the cooking.

I've heard that the worst thing about getting a male-> female sex change is getting your mouth widened and your brain scraped out.

Another question is whether there is a bias in one direction or the other.
I suppose there are statistics on Google.

The first part of you post is interesting, the second isn’t, but then I’m sure you knew that already! As you well know, plenty of women drive the boat whilst their male partners prefer locking, plenty of blokes enjoy cooking or at least prefer it to their wives offering. And how do same sex couples cope without gender stereotyping to tell them who does what? I don’t actually know anyone who’s had a sex change. I can obviously understand that people might want to sleep with the “wrong” sex but actually changing your own sex, a core part of your being, seems pretty drastic. Of course such people will no doubt say they have always been their new sex, just born into the wrong body.

A highly weathered steel erector friend of mine AND his tomboyish wife both had the ops. She made quite a good chap, being a bit blokey anyway, he...think Lilly savage but worse. Not seen them for 20 years.

My, er, friends I mentioned above started off with piercings without painkilling, where they discovered the line between pleasure and pain was intriguing. One thing led to another...strange but true. I believe they swapped "parts", but maybe I imagined that.

I've known a few..some in the ward I worked in(staff and patients)...they came across as sad individuals and I felt very sorry for them. I also visited one in the Community..the same..

I have also met several who were male to female changes, and have not been convinced the change has made them happy.
But happiness is perhaps the holy grail for them, an impossible dream.

I once heard an interesting theory (not saying if I agree or disagree with it because I don't know enough about it) that the root of sex changes is that the patient is essentially homosexual but feels that a same sex relationship is "sinful".

I doubt it. Or at least, I very much hope it’s wrong or very rare. Sounds like homophobic wishful thinking to me! As I understand it (which is probably not well), people wanting gender changes are not that interested in the sex side of it, more in having a body that is the same gender as their mind.

a work colleague called Allen tended to use subtle makeup and his thinning hair was dyed and tied in a pony tail. When he moved depots last year, he became Allison and an Alice Cooper look alike…but dressed as a female.
I was amazed at the pisstaking negative reaction of my male colleagues….To me it was obvious from the first day I met him/her. And I'm a neandertal baboon.FFS.
P.S…scored 97% on my equality test today.
Does it show.?!!

We had a lorry driver leave his wife and become a lady.
I've not met her since the op but prior to that he had to live as a lady for a few years to make sure it was the right decision.
I still weren't sure how to address him. I mean he was a big butch lorry driver in a dress and a wig. Do you call him mate or love.
I just called him drive in the end. Lovely bloke though, I got on really well with him as a male and as a cross dresser. I can only presume he left after having the op.

There was a nurse in Coronary care who had the sex change...he used to be a farm labourer and when the daughter of his old boss admitted all she was worried about was if this nurse would be on duty... I worked with 'her' occasionally and i just dunno if becoming a woman gave him/her what he/she really wanted. The other one I worked with was a f..... up mess and should never have been allowed near patients....he was cross dressing pre his op and passed dreadful comments about male anatomy in front of little old men in the urology ward. I was shocked and highlighted my concerns about the suitability of him working on our ward. Nothing done as it was regarded as possible discrimination against the cross dresser. There was no protection for the patients against the awful comments he said to them..... Of the other three ..one was a patient who'd deliberately damaged his testicles ?in order to speed up the op and the other 2 lived together and I went to help one of them get attendance allowance by filling in forms. I really liked them, yet it was all very sad as they were supporting each other.. I often wonder what became of them, I know that the application for benefits successful..as it should have been.
