If anyone wants to see a few more pics, and has a Facebook account, my Chief Engineer has just posted a couple of dozen pics on NB Desiree's Facebook page, here. www.facebook.com/narrowboatdesiree/We're already thinking of doing the Thames again in 2017. It was absolutely terrifying, but in a fun way!

I hadn't seen your Facebook pictures before - you've certainly clocked up some miles and have a realm of knowledge of the canals now! With a small narrowboat, don't forget the Huddersfield Narrow Canal - we liked this a lot as it's so quiet.

Yes, I think it's fair to say I've made good use of her, I must have done over a thousand miles of the canal network in two years, will probably head up north next year, although we enjoyed the Thames so much we might just do it again.

Not really narrowboating news I suppose, but as he is a Thunderboat member I'm going to use this space to say Congratulations to my Chief Engineer, who passed his driving test this afternoon, here he is posing as we passed good old narrowboat Tilly on the Llangollen Canal last year, sadly the great man himself was nowhere to be seen or we would have stopped off to say "Hellllooooooo there folks!".

Does that say 'Free Palestine' on his shirt? May I have one, too? You're not going to tell us his member name is tomsk, are you?!! (ps - I have watched many Tilly videos, I like his enthusiasm, and there's that chap on 'cruisingthecut' who is also very good)

No, but you might be able to work out who it is if you are sufficiently interested (Clue- avatar also from "Das Boot") 3. Yes, we met David (Cruising the Cut) at Stoke locks just a couple of weeks ago, had a long chat, we even shook his hand!

Good on him, as well as a thunderboater, keep an eye on him and make sure he becomes a proper petrolhead

Yes, that is he, it's a bit of an in-joke, when we are out cruising we try to spot at least one boat called "Narrow Escape" every day, when I am single handing I take photos of any boat called "Narrow Escape" that I see, and post them on his Facebook timeline. As for buying him a car, I think I'll have to find a job first.

Well, it's good that you have had the chance to show your son real life. This is the kind of thing he may well remember and strive for in his later years.

Agreed. We've done it twice, each there-and-back on the Tideway. Brilliant that you did your research, knew your tides and had a properly successful and enjoyable trip! Without a doubt it was the highlight of owning our boat. I'll be honest, we were terrified as those bottom gates at Limehouse opened, we rode the Thames on a wave of pure adrenaline, but we had prepared for it and we would have cancelled the trip at the last minute had the weather not been 100% favourable. I would definitely do it again, although there is so much more of the canal network I want to see and time is running out!
