Meant to mention that we arrived at Foulridge tunnel behind three Silsden hire boats (narrows) ready for a 12 noon passage.
The lights changed to green (timed one way working) and in they all went.
I hung back a little, thinking to allow some space, but the lights are only green for ten minutes so I couldn't wait for long.
We entered the tunnel to such a clattering and banging up ahead. All three boats appeared to be hitting every piece of masonary and despite it being a wide tunnel, they seemed to collide with both sides. We'd caught tail end charlie almost instantly and spent most of the next half hour or so out of gear.
No worries, you have to learn, and we've all been there no doubt.
However at 12.25pm we still had 600 metres to go!
Jane went to the bow to suggest to the boat in front that they needed to speed up, as there was a huge gap between him and the other two.
We eventually emerged at nearly 12.35pm, to discover wide beam boat 'Aries' waiting patiently, having had green lights for 5 mins.
I helped all three hire boats to turn so had the chance to explain to them, that travelling back they only had 30mins to get through.
Fast forward to today and Gannow tunnel. As we approached widebeam 'Dee' had just emerged.
Gannow tunnel is two way working (for narrows).
It crossed my mind that 'Aries' could have gone on a green light and caused all kinds of fun.
Secondly, that seeing a headlight in Gannow tunnel wouldn't necessarily stop a narrow boat, as the tunnel is two way working, but the headlight could belong to a widebeam. More fun ensues!

Rog Cows take longer than 30 mins and they don't wear headlights either. They do however have 2 Horns!

We were wandering around looking for the 'Ole in the Wall pub, but it's gone. Knocked down and all new builds (well new to us).
I suppose any cows are on their own now. Cafe Cargo looks too posh to help.

Bloody wide beams, if only they could charge them more for blocking two way tunnels for us important narrows...
Joke.
