Writer and historian Dan Jones uncovers the unique stories behind three of Britain's most iconic canals in this brand new documentary series. The Grand Union Canal from Birmingham to London began its history more than 200 years ago, and challenged the greatest industrial engineering minds of the time. Now it has found new life as a leisure destination for thousands of holidaymakers. Travelling this impressive route, Dan experiences first-hand the innovations behind its construction, including the Blisworth tunnel - the longest freely navigable tunnel in Europe - and the Iron Trunk Aqueduct at Cosgrove.

I only managed to record the last half hour or so of it on Freeview Channel 44 -(5+1) and having now watched it I wish I hadn't bothered. I got the distinct impression that the presenter was simply regurgitating a spiel he'd been schooled in by C&RT's publicity department.
Like John, I was intrigued by the mathematics of the annual mileage of waterway that gets dredged nowadays. Will I be watching the rest of the series ? . . . Don't think so !

I never 'plan' to view anything really..I only saw that as I was flicking through channels..the bits i saw did seem very pro CRT ..maybe it'll balance if they talk to boaters...
