This video is already a few years old, but is still very interesting to watch.
A whole bunch of brand new Rhine barge hulls built in China, transported to Rotterdam from where they went to different places to be finished, motorised and fitted out.
The way they were loaded onto that special boat transport ship BLUE MARLIN of Dockwise is most impressive.
As bonus another video of an earlier arrival in Rotterdam of a Big Sea Tug with a heavily laden pontoon from China

Great stuff, Peter, . . . although seeing that is a sad reminder of just what once 'Great' Britain has allowed itself to become, and just how far we now lag behind other countries in our ability to get stuck in and get things done, especially if it's connected in any way with waterborne transport.
Just imagine the endless rounds of feasibility studies and meetings that would precede a project like that in the UK, before being stifled out of existence by a collection of useless people without either the will or the balls to put their names to it and see it through.

A little more complicated than lifting a canal boat out and putting it on a truck !!
I was surprised to learn that Rhine barges are made in China.

But as it's so nice to talk about it while being well fed, and watered (wined really), and on top of that getting extremely well paid for every (talkshow) meeting to lobby about the projects, they manage to finish the available budget before anything useful has been done.
Next year there's a new budget that ends up exactly the same way, none of the burocrats care about reality, as long as they're having a good time, all is well.

There are still a few build in the Netherlands, others in Roumania, Poland and the Czech Republic, but the prices and the speed that the barges in China are built with, can't be matched.
It's only the empty hulls that are build in China, all the rest is done in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, were the engines, electrical installations, and everything is done to prepare them for their working lives on the European waterways.
