This is where the contractor has put the dredgings from the Wolverton section of the GU, back in the waterway behind one plastic mesh and wooden post fence. Is this going to work or is the mud just going to collapse back into the water in a few years time ?

Does seem a bit of a bodge. Perhaps the general plan is that plants will grow in it and stabilise it. I would say realistically that it will collapse back into the cut due to wash from passing boats.
Its a bit tricky to dispose of dredgings as apparently it is classed as contaminated or hazardous or something like that. To be fair it is a bit nasty.

On that programme I watched CRT..well it was either them or the narrator chappie said the dredgings went on farmers fields..TBH I didn't think that was right

Do you have a bus available to help transport the materials ?

Do you have a bus available to help transport the materials ? You could get it to the bus in one of your floating skips. Job sorted with teamwork.

We're at the very north end of the Trent & Mersey canal, and contractors having been doing exactly the same to make up new offside banks.
We've seen stretches where they're still staking out, but other stretches where they have already dredged and back filled.
It is drying out and holding together well.
The stretches are at different stages in the process, with the oldest already begining to sport grass and nettle growth.
So my guess would be it can work, but if the weather had been excessively wet, maybe that would have had a negative impact.
Pleased to see the dredging going on, well done C&RT.

Rog Fair play to CRT contractors. Never had an issue with them, even the one who took a chunk out of my blacking this morning with a strimmer..,management told him to do it apparently...
