Very sad. No body has been found yet but the chances of this little laddie being found safe and well seem vanishingly small now. Sadly, some type of incident such as this always seems to happen during hot weather. "Police divers are continuing an underwater search for a 13-year-old boy who went missing at a lake in Staffordshire. Three boys were spotted "in distress" at Westport Lake in Stoke-on-Trent at about 16:50 BST on Monday. Two of them made it safely out of the lake but one, named by police as Ryan Evans, is still missing. The search was called off at 23:00 BST on Monday due to fading light and resumed at about 08:00 BST on Tuesday" www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-44611454

Having had a healthy respect for water drummed into me from a very early age I never had any interest in swimming in lakes/gravel pits - something I'm eternally grateful for when I read or hear stories like this

The water is so cold in these deep old gravel pits..dunno if thats what they were..having seen my brother swept down the overshot at Oundle, I never swam in any rivers/lakes etc as a child. Mum went after him and saved him..I still remember the fear...I nearly drowned myself twice as a child, my brother dragged me out once and a stranger helped me another time..both times caught by rising tides. I love boats and boating but hate water and swimming.

His body has been recovered...... LINKVery sad, although I think we all knew this was always going to be the inevitable result. I cannot begin to imagine how distraught his parents must be. I'm sure many of us must have moored at Westport Lake, and it seems such a benign and tranquil place. RIP, little fella.

How terrible for his parents...I hope there are no more, that this tragedy serves to re-inforce how dangerous these places are.
