How awfully shocking. Waitrose are going to have to sell some of their "little" (what a horribly irritating brand name) shops to co-op and -SHOCK HORROR- they are even giving way to a slimy German Aldi shop ! Its a true horror story. Where will one be able to shop? m&s? Planet organic? I mean this is simply awful. I just hope Ocado survives it all. www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jun/27/john-lewis-to-close-five-waitrose-stores-after-warning-on-profitsDreadful. My woman insists on doing all her shopping at LIDL which is even worse than Waitrose.

But some pretty rubbish ones elsewhere. John Lewis is a great shop for some things especially electricals, but eye wateringly expensive for some other stuff. I’d be sorry to see either go down the pan especially JL.

True.
It looks like the story is about Waitrose attempting to compete on convenience with Tesco Sainsbury and the kraut shops.
I suppose John Lewis must be getting battered by online retail like amazin and ebay but it seems to me they will survive. It would be quite shocking if they were driven out.

I see that JL group think that the solution to their problems is a CRT style rebranding. To my mind, the big mistake Waitrose made was expanding into the north when the most basic customer research would have told them that northerners only eat chip barms and mushy peas.

You mean they don't buy the duchy originals seeded loaves often?

Maybe it's all part of evolution. A company that -apparently- cares about the people who work for it is destined to fail because the competition consists of companies who don't give a shit about anything other than the prophet margin.

It would be quite shocking if they were driven out. they can do what they like with Tesco and Sainsbury's. the Coop is the UK's No 1 convenience store. convenience is a hard nut to crack with some stiff competition. I see Tesco have stopped rebranding one stops and are leaving them as one stop because people are fed up with Tesco. sneaky. I think the profit margin statement is unfair too. Coop are in effect a non profit organisation. with all profit being reinvested in the group, given back to share holders(members), spent on local communities or used to help communities around the world on various projects.
