Friggin fucking hire boaters....
moored at ansty, chilling watching the French spank the argies and an Ashby boat hits me, stick my head out the back door and get a sorry from some women on the back, bloke just ignores me, they are all drinking so I say maybe they should lay off the beer to which they reply the steerer isn’t drinking and step aside to show a little kid steering, so i reply maybe you shouldn’t let him steer to which the hag replies maybe you shouldn’t moor on a bend.....
no damage but it pisses me off that they think it’s all shits and giggles coz it’s not in the real world, they pay £1000 to have a bit of fun and I pay £35k to have them hit me.

Yea, bit irritating. Maybe follow them along the towpath until they get to a bridge and then bump into their persons thus knocking them overboard to be prop-minced. Or stand on the bridge with your cassette ready to empty. That would learn 'em.
If you are where I think you are then whilst it is on a bend, it is also designated visitor moorings.

By the Rose and Castle I imagine, everywhere else in Ansty there are No Mooring signs every six inches.

To be fair it is a tight bend, but every other boat, and there has been a fair few this afternoon, have all passed fine, just them fucktards.
Boats get hit, I understand that, have hit a boat myself but to me met with parents getting pissed whilst little tommy steers pisses me off.
Ah well, gonna head to the ansty club and see what trouble I can get in to, are you local!!

No, at Foxton top lock at the moment. Will be at Ansty sometime next week as it's the first place I can wind the boat after my mooring (between 13 and 13A) and I plan on heading south next trip.

I believe (someone will come along and say its bollocks) that there is something in the bye laws about not mooring on bends. For a good reason. It is a bit unwise especially during periods of Idiot Weather. I'm not referring to a member of this forum I am referring to the fact that warm weather brings idiots out. The moral of this story is Don't moor on bends in nice weather

Ansty is one long bend, no matter where you moor you run the risk.
Only here for one night so no matter, off to rugby tomorrow.

I wonder how long it has been a visitor mooring. Technically anywhere on the towpath is a visitor mooring but I distinctly remember reading somewhere that you must not moor on bends. It could have been near bridges and locks but I think it was bends.
I suppose one man's bend is another man's curve so it would need some sort of indication as to whether it was in fact a bend.
On the grand union some of the bends are reinforced with different piling so you can see if it is a bend or just a slight curve. Not sure if that is universal and I guess it comes down to general / common sense at the end of the day.
Like steerers being able to see in front of the boat.

What a strange coincidence. When I stopped near ansty in 1994 (my first year living on the cut) someone drove a car into the canal from beside a bridge. In the morning the roof was just visible and a geyser came with a hiab truck and lifted it out. Really nice bit of lifting equipment he had. No bodies in the car. I think it was a Renault 19.

I'll second that.
I quite like the mooring at Ansty as there's a large Asda and Tesco just up the road.
But the only mooring I will countenance using is the first one on the straight almost opposite the Rose and Crown.
Seen loads of collisions further on actually on the bend (official visitor moorings and permit holder moorings too) including a moored GRP which lifted out of the water slightly as it was squeezed into the bank. The owner was on board and couldn't believe he'd got away without any damage.

I believe (someone will come along and say its bollocks) that there is something in the bye laws about not mooring on bends. It's bollocks. Thanks for that Nigel. I suppose in effect it comes under obstructing navigation so in some situations mooring on a bend, if it caused vessels to collide with you, would be an obstruction.
