I'm getting a bit worried by the power of Google maps.
When I was in France a couple of days ago I was able to find out when the local super-u beer shop closed just using Google maps. Tomorrow I want to travel from limehouse to hambleden on Thames by public transport and Google maps -will- give me the fastest route. An when I drive to places it is usually accurate to within a few minutes.
In theory this is great. You get what you want delivered effectively and efficiently. But there must be a sinister side to it.
As I am one of the baby mules I do wonder how things will be in 20 years time.
What will be the next big thing? I've got £100 to invest if anyone knows.

Turn location off, job sorted. That's true but at the end of the day it is a very efficient system. I'm not particularly bothered about myself as I am mid forties and will soon be part of the past but I am intrigued by how this all goes in future. It seems to be getting too big and powerful. I quite like it though

Kittens that crapped in the crypt?
Google Maps is great for street views and planning before you get there. Google street view not available in Germany - presumably they're planning for another war and want all their 'stuff' kept secret. Sometimes with Google street view you can catch some bird out shopping with big bazookas. That's Personal Infringement.

The thing that amazed and pissed me off in equal measure is that Google photos can accurately plot the position of where a photo was taken - even on photos I've uploaded to Google that were taken with phones that pre dated me having a Google account

a mate was showing me that last year ..... he automatically sends his photos to Google as he takes them. Google sorts them out, classifies them, into multiple interlocked addresses. In effect making a picture/video diary of his life as it happens. He can check a date on google and see where he was/who/what he saw.
He reckons it's a fantastic aide memoire
Me ? I reckon it's creepy and I don't fancy it ....... even if it can sort out the jumbled mess of photos that I have

A photo file contains metadata that will include the location where the picture was taken, if the camera has GPS or location awareness. Google is just reading that data.

It was surprising to me as at the time I was not aware of what you have posted. I've no interest in stuff like that - I only discovered the location feature when looking at the info tab after I had uploaded loads of photos off my elderly work computer. Google - nosey bastards!

one good thing about face book. especially if your like me and want to keep certain locations secret is that when you upload a photo is deletes all the meta data.

As soon as you press 'delete' or 'clear history' they are all laughing in Beijing.

cryptokitties? I'll have to google that. If you do you’ll wonder what the world is coming too, and people will basically trade in anything! Think the bubble burst on it tho.
