We are going to have to make a trip up to Edinburgh early August and looking for somewhere safe to leave the boat unattended for a couple of days. The nature of the trip is stressful so we don’t want any further stress worrying about the boat. Still unsure if we will get over the Rochdale or not but if we do, it is looking like we’ll be around the Dewsbury or Wakefield areas. So there are moorings at Fall Ings, but presumably no security. How safe are they? Then there is the boatyard up the Dewsbury arm at Savile town - Calder Valley Marine. They seem to do overnight moorings (for a fee, but don’t mind that for peace of mind). Or any other ideas. We might get as far as Stanley Ferry I suppose but it depends on Rochdale delays, and not sure if they have overnight moorings, and also we will be hiring from Enterprise so something not too far out of town is better for “we pick you up”.
Any thoughts?

I'm sure Stanley Ferry Marina will be able to find space for you for a couple of days, especially as many of their long-term moorers will be out cruising at this time of year.

Nick you can use ours at stanley ferry - we'll be out and about anyways. ITs the empty space between a green boat called valkrie and a yellow wide beam with no name... couple of landrover tyres on chains to keep you off the shelf if the level drops.
Otherwise, anywhere over the other side is safe enough - no point going into the marina as it's way too tight and there are so many people around both dogwalkers and boaters, touch wood it's safe enough.
wouldn't bother with Dewsbury though
I wouldnt leave my boat at fall ings though... worse case you could use the barnsley road visitor mooorings outside the ruddy duck - they're over looked by both the pub and the houses...

That’s very kind, thanks. It does sound as though SF is the best bet, I just hope our progress through the Rochdale means we make it in time - always assuming we can go that way with lock 45. I’m sure boating used not to be this stressful!

Except that now everybody knows where an empty boat will be. Might be better to delete the above and message Nick? (nice call to help though) Not really. Firstly, no date specified and secondly, one can be pretty certain that there are plenty of empty boats at permanent moorings, not just ours. We will only be away one night.

Not to put a downer on quaysiders kind offer but I thought cart had put a stop to lending your mooring to friends through the district enforcment bullshit. Although I don't know if anybody has paid the £150 a day charges yet.

terms and conditions state they must notify you in writing to move the boat. if you then fail to remove the boat, they can issue the overstay charges. 1.3 You are not permitted to move your Boat on to the Mooring (if you have a Boat) before the Mooring Period Start Date, notified to you by us. We will notify you of the Mooring Period Start Date as soon as practicable after the later date referred to in condition 1.2(a) and 1.2(b), 1.4 If for any reason you move your Boat on to the Mooring Site without our permission, or if we permit you to do so in error, notwithstanding that the conditions in condition 3 have not been met, you must remove the Boat from the Mooring Site if we give you a written notice requiring you to remove the Boat from the Mooring Site. 1.5 If you fail to remove the Boat within the period specified in the written notice given to you in accordance with condition 1.4 above, we shall be entitled to: i) remove your Boat from the Mooring Site to such place on The Trust’s Waterways as we deem appropriate, and you consent to us entering on to and/or taking control of the Boat for a temporary period to the extent necessary to carry out our rights under this condition 1.5; ii) charge you Overstay Charges which you will find: (a) at or (b) on prominent notices located at the Mooring Site. You will be liable to pay Overstay Charges, in accordance with this condition 1.5, up to and including the date upon which your Boat is removed from the Mooring by you, or by us. no 3rd party can introduce terms that make the original contract worse. anyway these are the T&C's DE rely on. so don't worry Nick.

What! People actually break into Hudson's! Has the world run mad! Light-fingered gourmets with a craving for caviar, orecchite pate and swan's eggs I would imagine.

Yes there’s stoppage notice about it. But that should leave plenty of time to get to the NE - if lock 45 is fixed!
