Daughter is off to Uni in Coventry in September. Hubby(‘Im Indoors) aka Cadi’s dad is celebrating his birthday in October and we find ourselves in the Midlands,so, we are looking for a good restaurant to celebrate him managing another year with us! Any ideas? Cost is no object, he’s paying 🤣

La Coppola in Leamington Spa is a lovely Italian. The Cross in Kenilworth is also very good.

Well, whatever you find, always read the 'terrible' comments on tripadvisor.co.uk to give yourself an inkling. We went to the Dog and Doublet in Sandon last night and although it's down as a "good country inn" in Pearson's canal guide, we have been to much nicer Wetherspoons. Paying a lot can mean you just get a better class of salmonella.

I’ve stayed there a couple of times in my corporate days including a Christmas “do”. Tripadvisor wasn’t very complimentary? It was at least 10 years since my last visit. Thanks for the idea. So, where do Ifind your beans on toast? Im moving daughter in to her accommodation in September and may need sustinence!!

I'll ask about... most of the boaters on my mooring seem to go for pub meals if they eat out, we're not posh enough for restaurants. I imagine there are quite a few ethnic restaurants as Coventry has a significant Sikh community.

When you say near, will you be driving or getting a taxi?
What type of food, or any type of food to avoid?
Coventry is not really known for top restaurants, city center is aimed at the student market, best to head out, maybe kenilworth or warwick way.
