These deserve a thread of their own. Tucked up on one of my favourite spots - Earith EA moorings at Westview Marina. A couple of interesting boats in the marina. This has always caught my eye, but as with all wooden boats it can't turn my head or my brain! I love the forward steering position too. This old tub is a bit different and sadly unloved, it looks to be subject to licence enforcement too While preparing dinner this old girl came out for a play in some gusty difficult conditions - a brave effort heading into the wind. They ultimately gave up the unequal struggle and sailed the way all gentlemen should, down wind with a bit of dignity and decorum. The old girl got a reasonable lick on coming down wind - enough to rock us about a bit, sadly no slow down tosspots about to shout their outrage at a boat going well in a stiff breeze 👍🚢 They motored back onto their mooring, can't say as I blame them! Westview have found the best use for a wide beam - plonk it on land our of everyone's way and use it as offices and a chandlery. They have history with this sort of thing, this poor old JG Meakes Maderia was the old fuel barge. Now replaced with this which is a bit more user friendly. Finally, it must have been a good spring tide to get this one up on the bank. I can think of plenty of worse places to be beached when you have neighbours like this.

They get everywhere Phil In fact the yacht looks like a Broads white boat The trouble is none of the big uns can get further upstream than Offord lock, I've mentioned it before but it was one of the reasons Hugh Easton left Harry Lincoln's employment at Appleyard and Lincoln - Harry flatly refused to build anything wider than 10' odd as it wouldn't fit on his river, Hugh rightly said the market called for wider boats and the end result (along with the oil crisis!) Saw boat building in Ely scale back dramatically. My brother sent one home from Denver Cruising Club - he had an absolute bargain purchase of a DC30, Way cheaper here than on the Broads.

Nice photos gazza, the prettiest motorboat is the first one, but the yacht that's sailing is gorgeous to see too.
If I had to make a choice for a boat that would fit me the best, then it would be the second photo, the steel workboat.
Peter.

The first one 'Wayfarer' is a beautiful boat with a long history. Made of teak, it is over 110 years old. It's powered by a Lynch electric motor but has a diesel generator for charging the battery bank. It's a fabulous sight to see it gliding silently along the Great Ouse.

I think the steel boat may be a heavily modified ships lifeboat. Only thing is it looks rather "harder" than the average lifeboat conversion so maybe its something else.

I can imagine that it's a fabulous sight to see that boat gliding silently through the water, I really love to see beautiful boats like that.
If I would be cruising in the same area on my hypothetical scruffy steel workboat, I could enjoy seeing "Wayfare" gliding along in all her beauty.
The people onboard of "Wayfarer" can't see that themselfs, and it will be up to them to spend lots of their time and money to keep it in such a great condition.
To me a beautiful "Wooden" boat is a huge money pit, absolutely beautiful, but I wouldn't want to be the owner, owner that I respect a lot for looking after his boat like that.
Peter.

It's now over 20-years since she disappeared but we still mourn the loss of the Viscountess Bury from the Great Ouse. FULL STORY HERE

This is for sale following a big rebuild at Lowestoft boat building college. Looking rather nice, I've never visited that boat building college, but quite a few years ago I visited another place that's known world wide as "The" school for wooden boatbuilders next to San-Francisco in Sausalito, I was most impressed to see the work they were doing there, it smelled so nice there, no comparison to dirty steelwork.
