Just an idle thought as I’m bored. I got a notification from CRT about wide beams booking passage through Blisworth.
Having been either behind one or held at 8am in the past at both Blisworth and Braunston, I know the rules on this and seems a reasonable way to allow passage.
Then I wondered what had prompted the notification from CRT and had visions of a widebeam hastily backing out faced with the wrath of on oncoming boater :-) Or maybe just ploughing them down and not noticing!
Does this happen?
Or is the reason for the notification just something boring like a change of booking times?

A mate was held up at Blisworth a couple of weeks ago by a couple of people at the Stoke Bruerne side of the tunnel.
No sign of any C&RT staff, so he figured it was a DIY passage.
If that's happening too frequently, maybe C&RT are just reminding folk of the official method.

Might explain it.
Conversely, I did see an old couple hovering at the entrance to the tunnel above Hatton Flight in a proper width boat a few weeks back. They didn’t want to risk going through with an oncoming boat :-)
They kept beckoning people on, no idea how long they were there!

Whats a proper width boat? up here its a very large boat that is a proper width, ie 200 foot long by 20 foot wide, we didnt have have narrowboats as they couldnt carry enough weight, and so were pointless. The manning for moving 600 tons is the same as for 26 tons and whilst more fuel might be used its still a massive saving on time, wear and cost. Whilst I liked my narrowboat I realised that a widebeam is the right size for a wide waterway so I bought one and have never regretted that decision, in fact I dont think I could live in a corridor now even though it would give me an increased cruising range |

Got nothing against widebeams actually. I’d have one if I was on a proper size bit of water.

Nice proper barge type would be my preference. There’s a lovely one moored on the GU around the MK Leighton Buzzard area I think. I’m guessing just as a houseboat because the bridges north and south of it aren’t piles of rubble.

That’s the one. I do feel sorry for it when I pass. It definitely deserves to be somewhere it can move.
That said, it’s the nicest houseboat on the nicest location I’ve ever seen.
