Painting the side of the boat this lunchtime I was used to boats going past and our boat a-twistin' and a-turnin', but that was OK as different areas came to me for dabbing with the paintbrush. But then an elderly couple pair of fossils came charging past and had the boat a-clatterin' and a-banging'. "That's a bit fast," says I. "This is as slow as we can go!" replies the Old Trout. Didn't you follow them to the next lock with a red hot mooring spike ?
Peter.

I was wondering who the stupid person was. The man painting a narrow boat on a hot day or the geriatric with a badly adjusted Morse cable.

Tie your boat up properly, ageist pig! It needed to be loose so I could paint the side, room for paintbrush required. Second Stupidest Comment of the Day. Aren't you going to jump on one of your favorite trains to see Andy, with a red hot mooring spike now ?
Or is this the third Stupidest Comment of the Day ? .
Peter.

think we are Really Skilled Boaters. ahh. Good old fashioned RSB's not many of those about these days. Alternatively they may think you are True Watercraft Aficionado Types.

I have long advocated (in my head) keeping a list of idiot boaters and returning the favour. The only problem with this is you could get a situation where some real dickhead canes it past too fast looking clueless. you log the boat name and next time you see it moored on pins you speed past deliberately to return the favour and you find out it is being used by a beautiful young woman. Nobody else on the boat. And that by speeding past her first thing in the morning you have upset her and caused her to come out in her nightwear and retie the boat and hammer the pins back in. Which you can then help her with.
What a mistake to make.

Can you put the reference to bean cultivation back? I'm curious now.

How can it be complex. It has to go something like this.
Plant bean - water - wait - harvest lots of beans - repeat.

I'm sure thats how beans grow..my neighbour has lots of runner beans on canes and uses lots of water...I have to negotiate carefully past these beans and avoiding them sometimes means I hit the fence... I blame the beans..
