Too much information, froggy - but each to their own.
Meanwhile, back to the Caldon ......
It's a shame ianali won't be able to go beyond Hazlehurst. I like the way CRT are blaming heavy use of the T&M for the stoppage!!!
Perhaps we should all make a reduction in our licence payments next year commensurate with the waterways we have/haven't been able to use? Ashby is still open, off i go tonight for a few days, lovely! Lots of people saying things like that on social media, how many would take it though if they did offer money back, where would it leave them financial next year... as long as they don't award themselves any bonuses

Well, Ali and I have decided to sit tight in the pub for today and discuss possible reroutes. On the plus side we won’t be getting up early tomorrow to sneak through Stoke in stealth mode. Negatives so far is that the beer here isn’t cheap, also we think we spotted Neil and he didn’t look happy. plus side, moules were good. Beer is 5.9 proof and very tastey. Hard life. You could be past Hazlehurst by Sunday, CRT will open the lock to let you back out again with 24 hours notice.

It just says they’ll do that for people with moorings the wrong side of hazelhead.

No. Not in that context. ”Hello CRT, I’d like to licence my boat”... “Do you have a home mooring?” ... “Yes, the 48hr visitor moorings near the shops”... “OK so you are one of the despised CCers then. We will get you and crush your boat eventually. Be very afraid”.

I'm not surprised it's only 48 hr moorings then.

Caldon canal now closed due to water shortages at Hazelhurst lock. Well, from Monday anyway. i think it’s time we all bought caravans and gave up on boating. Ask Martin on CWDF for tin shed advice, He was the harbinger of doom about the canals some time ago. Plenty of water in Fenland and the Broads - we would have to have a drought like the Ozzie's are having for me to give up and get a bloody caravan!

We will not be buying a caravan! As it happens it’s no big deal for us, we can go up the Caldon another time. Think we will turn and go play on either the Ashby or maybe Braunston areas. Need to be at Barton Turns for first week in September for a party. Apart from that we can be anywhere. Not going to moan about the lack of water as the summer has been fabulous.

Caravans can go places boats can't! We've moored ours in some amazing places where we couldn't have parked our boat. There's also the added benefit and joy of holding up the traffic, as much fun as swing bridges only for longer. So what exactly is the problem? Other than I'm a Twat? Before anyone else says it!

Top explanation that a caravan can go where a boat can't.
However the movement requires a car and roads. Not very relaxing.
I'll stick with my boat 😊
