Falk.
Anyway, as the say in America 'stalk is cheap' so it won't cost CRT much to fix it.

The girls in the Leeds call centre are pleasant and friendly enough, but tend not to be too clued up about the minutiae of mechanical engineering. I imagine that most of them would feel more confident in explaining the current plotline of "The Vicar of Dibley" than what a canal lock actually does. You could always ask them for a call back once they've acquired the knowledge.. I like giving those I seek info from a meaningful task to achieve...

Peter Stalk starred in the tv series "columbo" innit. My dad looked just like Columbo and last year my son brought the whole series and we sit and watch...the plot don't really matter just watching his mannerisms just reminds me of my dad.

Is the lock in question an automated one using hydraulic rams? Maybe the "stalk" is part of the hydraulic circuit. That would explain the delay in fixing it because the required part may not be kept in the stores.

Was talking to a guy on the cut tuther day - he reckons he new an old guy now retired who use to work for CRT in the 'Stalk' department.
He said they used to have a huge amount of stock compared with now - guess for each job they might of fabricated a part for the repair and a spare one for the future.
Anyway, he said one day the management decided to reappropiate the stores building and just threw all the stuff away or weighed it in.
Anyone else heard this story before?

No ...... but it matches what I have seen in other businesses where control has gone to the new breed of managers ...... you know the ones with a degree in business studies and sweet fa knowledge about the business they are meant to be running

Did your Dad frequently say "Just one more thing, Ma'am" and "My wife loves your show"?

Did your Dad frequently say "Just one more thing, Ma'am" and "My wife loves your show"? no but he was a shabby little man who used to smoke cigars before mum stopped him..he then smoked cigarettes.. there were lots of similarities..
