Have a think before adding your view. Remember the "What have the Romans ever done for us?" sketch from The Life of Brian? It turns out that the Romans did in fact make many improvements!

Not done but had done to them - kicked into touch from taking over the EA waterways.
Probably the single most important thing to happen to my patch.

Remember the "What have the Romans ever done for us?" sketch from The Life of Brian? It turns out that the Romans did in fact make many improvements! Including creating possibly the first of our canals, now in the grubby mitts of the current CaRT management, courtesy of the 1947 Act. Conversely, they impeded navigation for centuries along the river Brent, by creating a new artificial ford across it to facilitate the London to Staines road.

1. CRT have answered my e-mails to them quickly and couteously.
2. Bankside staff have invariably been friendly and helpful, and easy to identify because they are in uniform.
3. The CRT stoppages/Winter works list on their netsite seems to work well.
Hooray!

I have spent a while thinking .......... and have come up blank
so far everything positive I have thought of has either been due to individual CRT staff or was also happening in the times of BW.
(Of course that is speaking as a boater and not as a cyclist/duck/avid reader of idiotic signs/or someone receiving wellbeing)
Edit !!! Just thought of something they are better at than BWB or BW ..... wasting money

If they had taken active steps back then there would be no need for prebookable moorings. Though to be fair they were not the only ones with their heads in the sand ..... I was shouted down on CWDF about seven years ago when I said that it was a situation that needed jumping on before it became a major problem in the future.

This good/bad measure isn't workable.
I would say that the bankside staff under both organisations are very helpful, and I have never had the need to complain about them.
But that doesn't alter the fact that many of the roles they used to perform (clearing fallen trees and obstructions, levelling lock pounds on a daily basis etc) are no longer completed by them. At best they're contracted out and at worst just ignored until there's a problem.
Management directs their efforts, sells off equipment and cancels training, and plans (I use the term loosely) their activities.
I am in no doubt that current C&RT management have no interest in boaters, other than those in marinas who occasionally pop out around their local waters. If all the others would disappear they'd save a fortune.

They made my happiness reach explosive levels. I use other websites for that. Me, they sent me two keys for the mooring and didn't chase the return of one saving me £50. See, incompetence is sometimes rewarding.

Sailed past the point there foxy (or swam past ) The good and bad are intertwined and mutually dependant. New management who focus on C&RT as a navigation authority is 'the cure' but it's sadly unlikely to happen. A 34,000 strong pressure group isn't going to make significant noise I fear. Rog
