I'm thinking of moving marinas for one reason or another and I don't have any reason to be anywhere in the UK particularly.
So I thought I'd google marinas and read some reviews.
Farking hundreds of reviews of meals in marina cafes and not a single one about the actual marina apart from how nice they look from the cafe.
Anyone know a reasonably nice twat free one, preferably without a cafe?

Otherton Marina seems OK. Railway station 30 mins walk. Penkridge pleasant small town with hardware shop. Only problem is we're there.

Anyone know a reasonably nice twat free one, preferably without a cafe? We really like Fazeley Mill. Nothing fancy at all, just basic services - leccy and water on the pontoons, diesel, gas, coal, pump out, rubbish, elsan etc at the services. Not owner-run (which is a good thing IMO). Lots of liveaboards and a reasonable community. No stupid rules for the sake of rules. Only slight irritation is padlock entry to the pontoons, it would be better with a keyfob / codelock / card reader or whatever. So many marinas we looked at were either weird fiefdoms or huge fancy things with shops and restaurants. FMM strikes a good balance IMO.

Bloody noisy with the wind in the wrong direction though, it’s spitting distance from the M6. And we found it a bit weird when we went to look, although that was 8 years ago.

There’s also Kings Orchard on the Coventry, same company as FMM. And folk seem to like Kings Bromley on the T&M although we’ve never actually been in there.
Alvecote is weird. Streethay is too noisy. Great Haywood is horrible (in our limited experience). Aston is good, cheap diesel etc but there is a mahoosive bistro/restaurant thing.

Quiet and muddy would do frankly, mains is handy though. I don't like people much and neither does my liveaboard son. Next year it's looking like we might actually "boat" for 6-8 months if only to get away from people so could be a winter only thing.

I've read bad reviews about Otherton Marina. I have read good reviews about Otherton Marina. I have spoken to one boater who told me the horror side of Otherton Marina. I have met one boater who gave me the roses side of it. Now we've met the owners, they seem OK. I can't say I noticed the motorway much. Otherton is remote so unlikely to be cased by scrotes, and there seem to be people who are there all the time and I got the feeling it is a safe spot and a wise choice for us to visit. I may be wrong and have to sharpen the axe.

More than likely from next year on. Marina for this winter first though, just about to have an op and I'd rather have an easy life while I get my strength back. Also I've discovered that prepping a rusty boat for paint in a marina, even when the management are ok with it, isn't really a goer. Out of politeness, I have to keep going onto the canal to grind and power sand so might as well stay out there!

Yes if you have any health concerns then a mooring with all services is a good idea specially in winter.

Big place, modern huge buildings, windswept, busy roads? Northamptonish? BTW, Proper East Anglia is out, I've only recently escaped from Ely after 20+ years!
