electric car overstay charge

I'm a dedicated petrol head - I'd hate to own a car in the Smoke.
It's bearable as a visitor using the underground, I think my head would explode if I had to live there permanently though, buses are out, cars are out, the underground is expensive if used daily, cycling is absolutely out of the question.
I'd either get through a lot of shoe leather or jack it in in pretty short order!
