Since there appears to be a fair few 'crumblies' post on here and with seeing Geoffrey from Rainbow croaking it at a relatively youthful 76 after Charles Aznavour making it to 94, it got me thinking, Just how old is 'Old' in relation to folks & living?
When I started my career at 16, I used to look at my boss and think 50yo was ancient and 60years old was basically 'dug up and jump started' age, yet now, I look at plenty of 50 yo ladies and think 'hmmm yumyum' and indeed I was still doing bike & car trackdays rapidly at 50 so still have the will to live.
So what age is it time to start slowing down and indeed what age is it right to just roll over n croak it?
(Apologies for the grim thread but I stood on a plug this morn whilst getting up semi asleep to make a brew and thought for a few seconds 'gawd, just take me now' to relieve the pain!)

I know what you mean,I'm 60 but refuse to act sensibly or give in to any aches/pains etc. When I was younger, people tended to look older than we do now.I remember lots of older women having perms, beige macs & 'budgie' headscarfs.NO chance of that ! *Aches/pains-hunkered down to a bottom shelf at the library, when I got back up...my knees sounded like gunshots!😮

When my aunt turned 50 I told her she was old and that when she got to 75 she would be very old. 100 is ancient. I was 9 at the time. She's 85 now so making progress towards being ancient and other than her 4 siblings who took their own lives and one who died in an accident there is general longevity available. we had a great aunt from that family who lived to 103 I think the age to start slowing down and not doing to much is about 20.

I'm 56 I'm fitter in many ways than when I was 30 but do suffer from aches and pains from time to time. Officially middle aged for quite a few years, probably, but maybe a good few to go before I'm old.

Plugs hurt huh! As to age I think the term that it is relative is true. In my late teens I always said I’d be dead before I was fifty. I spent those years racing motorbikes, mainly on tracks but not always just on tracks...back then people over forty seemed old, didn’t they? Now In my fifties I still think I’m young, still do track days. Still drink too much and generally act like I’m still that silly teenager. Just a number ain’t it??

I should add that after falling off a month ago it definitely hurts more at this age! I did the Powys 150mile Brit Championship enduro last year at 51... . Didnt manage to finish it but it finished me alright ...Mentally & physically, both my bikes have sat under a sheet since!🙄

I don't think Im getting old, I now do more silly stuff than i did when the kids were young..had so much responsibility then it aged me. Now I think i'm fitter but tireder as I try to do 10 miles 2 or 3 times a week and over 5 on the rest. Stress wise Im worse ATM and thats aging. So in reality I guess I don't really know what is old.. Old could be when life finally weighs you down

Sunday I was young, yesterday I was old, today I'm middle aged, tomorrow I hope to be young again (that depends on finally sorting the slightly complex logistics of getting 5 people/businesses all to agree that everything is in place for a survey though...).

at 72 (and a bit ..... well nearly 73) I can no longer jump gaps nor throw a mooring rope 20 foot and get the loop over a bollard. I ache a bit and tire more easily than 20 years ago. I can't cut and split a large heap of logs in a day ......it takes me a week.
However I can still plot a course and stand a helmsmans watch so I'm not quite old yet.

I'm 59 and on a bad day I feel it, although I do still go roller skating from time to time.
