You missed one of the greatest fighter aircraft by some years. I remember going to Mildenhall in '87 and seeing the lightning doing its thing.

There was another one Lakenheath full of yanks with their own yank vehicles. I once saw an unbelievable aircraft taking off almost vertically like a missile at Lakenheath. That would have been late 80s. Well impressive but no idea what it was. It was not a missile as it had wings but they were right at the back. Probably some sort of special test maneuver of a combat aircraft.

Probably some sort of special test maneuver of a combat aircraft. That was the lightning's party trick. Both airbases are still active, lakenheath home to fighters and Mildenhall logistics and transport as I understand it. The skies above the Fens were busy as hell just before Libya and Gaddafi had the shit shot out of them. As a kid I remember the A10 tank busters/warthogs regularly flying over our home in Northamptonshire, I think they were based in the East Anglian USAF bases too.

Does look like a possibility but the vehicle I remember seeing did not have the backwards swept wings. I distinctly remember the shape and it was like some sort of aircraft/missile hybrid. Eta it could well have been that aircraft but seen at a funny angle from the back of a moving car. I've never been stationary always in a vehicle passing Lakenheath

The world has changed incredibly in the last sixty years. But looking at possibilities today, I wonder ... it may be interesting to be the person who applies spray tans Rog
