The RYA has just announced the European Courts of Justice have ruled against the HMRC with regard to Red diesel for pleasure boats. Doesn't look good. Don't know how to post the link on here. It's on CWDF, and on the RYA website.

Yes another reason for a hard Brexit.

It's a pity we didn't have a referendum so we could choose to leave the EU and tell them they can stuff their rules.

It's 99p a litre at the local BWML at the moment, that's at 100%.

Watching Theresa May squirming in Brussels this morning and whilst doing so mentioning we may be looking at extending the "transition" period until 2021. So I assume Brexit in name only until then. Therefore I can't see how the HMRC can avoid implementing the EU Directive during that time. Could it mean bad news for leisure boat owners next April ? I have 2 fuel tanks, hopefully that might help me avoid some grief.

I wonder what effect it will have on fuel boats. Positive or negative. I suppose they can always undercut boatyards due to lower overheads so it could actually be a boost for them.

The diesel at Goole boat house is currently 90p at the lower rate (for heating), but is going up again soon, we've been warned. Across the canal it's 83p, i was topping up yesterday. I am watching with interest the Saudi saga. Prices for fuel may well rocket.

My feeling is that boatyards may well stock red only, for heating, nudge nudge wink wink. White diesel will not be economically viable for many marinas with people going to garages/supermarkets for their propulsion fuel. Marinas with a large population of big engined cruisers may well stock both. What would the price of white be at an inland marina pump today for example? 160p a litre or more maybe with the economy of scale.

I wouldn't dream of putting empty 20 litre drums in the boot of my car and filling them with red diesel at LCS at Ryton on Dunsmore.

After 2 years and 4 months, although the EU politicians, Brussels Courts, Strasbourg offices and Merkel's Berlin Bunker have shown themselves to be utterly despicable bullies and blackmailers, the reason Britain hasn't become free of their evil grasp is simply because your local Member of Parliament is quite comfortable with his/her/its regular noshing from the Trough of Sleaze. Go round to your local MP right now and DEMAND they act NOW. The situation will only be resolved properly with Civil War now, it's a farce that makes Brits look... well... like the sheep they are. What could happen is that this will just drag on and on until the next generation, only interested in wearing their hats backwards, getting tattoos all over their bodies, and pubbin' & clubbin' and vomiting in the streets of Newcastle, will have no idea what 'Brexit' is. How about a FREEZE on ALL politicians' salaries (no money at all, I mean) until the situation is resolved?

My impression is that fuel boats on the canals can't be making much of a profit at all. I would happily pay much more for their wares to keep the spirit of their enterprise alive, but all people go on about is where to find the cheapest cheapest cheapest! The extra taxes we'll be paying for diesel fuel will be going to a good cause, feeding and clothing grooming gangs in prisons. And to help get Scouser-Lee out of a Thai prison (the Thais will want a backhander for that favour).

Anyway, can't stand here nattering all day, I've gotta get meself down the engine 'ole to wipe the cold floor, spilt antifreeze and splatterings of old oil. Spectacular sunrise, crows... er... crowing, and cows moo-ing & poo-ing.
