My 3 year old Skoda needs new rear discs and pads (Skoda are renown for making them out of cheese). £370 from the dealer (fitted). £180 from ECP. £120 from our local car parts place. Guess which one I chose?! (Fortunately I have the technology to retract the electronic parking brake).

Big concern ECP to say the least, I have dealt with them for years and find their prices very good to say the least. With luck they will do the same at ASAP who I thought were expensive and the items didnt fit which makes it worse. Having said that I am going to order parts from Rock Autos in a minute for my space shuttle [Honda insight Gen 1] and they are a huge concern in the USA, and as I have always run yanks I have had an account with them for years with extremely good service and price of parts

I think the only Aquafax item we've had so far is stern gland packing. Three years ago. I was shown how to cut the rings and prod them in, and was told they'd maybe last 10 years. I was told you should tighten the stern gland bracket up to the point where you can still turn the prop shaft with your hand. Our stern gland seems OK - doesn't really drip very much at all.

"What amazes me but does not surprise me, is that this bloke has £300 million quid"
I expect he's using it to help those less fortunate.

Our local one has had to lower prices to compete with ECP too. I'm sure like most VW group cars the superb needs a M14 multi spline tool for removing the calliper bracket. May be an idea to have a quick look before you get stuck in?

I just had a look at ECP's website and they want £219.99 for a 115 Ah Exide marine leisure battery, I bought two Yuasa 115 Ah marine leisure batteries from a motor factor a couple of weeks ago for £198 the pair.

Yes, and I ordered a set from eBay, arrived today. The bolts are bloody tight too! But anyway, one side done, 1/2 way through second side, stopped for tea. Apparently one is supposed to replace the bolts but I haven’t bothered, they seem very chunky and robust for rear brakes and no significant corrosion. Unlike the discs, which are trashed after 3 years /30,000 miles, and pads down to about 3mm. Front discs and pads are still fine though.

Still on the original fronts at 60k now. The rears are prone to sticking too, I've had the replacement stuff apart a couple of times for a clean and copperslip. BTW, I used the same bolts with a drop of loctite - not fallen off yet

I believe you are supposed to replace them because they are coated with a substance designed to inhibit bimetallic corrosion. I would use new ones if I was changing the discs on a decent car but I wouldn't bother on a Skoda.
