This is near Southall. No its not a popular tourist area. Place stinks of bird shit and carrier bags everywhere. Its a disgrace And about 150 pigeons on other side waiting for their dinner. Sad really. I guess the restaurants have to pay landfill tax to dump food so they bin it in the cut.

Don't worry about it. These carrier bags are biodegradable.

A pleasant photo.
I can only see one carrier bag, a blue one in the canal.
Always been families there feeding the swans when we've passed by.
Am I missing something?

Rog You missed the instruction saying take the rose coloured transparent stickers off your glasses they are just there to protect the lenses in storage. Eta the tree/bush just before the bridge was full of plastic bags. And the place really smells of bird shit. And no I have never seen families feeding the wildfowl but I have seen people emptying bags of bread in the cut then leaving pronto

Still can't see bags in the bush in your photo.
If you see the presence of so many birds as a problem, I'll keep the stickers on my glasses, thanks.
I guess they weren't responsible for the discarded bags.

I do find concentration of birds a bit of a problem yes. I love the wildlife don't get me wrong but dozens of swans in one place (note that many of them are on the towpath not in the water) and seagulls and pigeons in the immediate area is indicating a problem.
Its OK it was a moan. I had a very nice day boating anyway.
I dislike large scale dumping of food waste in waterways. Fortunately it is pretty unusual.

On my admittedly few trips along there from Bulls Bridge into the city, I have always been surprised at the concentration of wildfowl in exactly that location.
But it appears it is a regular daily feeding site, being so close to the houses.
Very noticeable along there also, that nests are made of all manner of flotsam.
We are a dirty species.

There is a terrace of houses there. And a road. If the people in those houses were feeding the birds they would starve. The simple fact is that food businesses (cash and carry, restaurants etc) dump rotten bread in the cut in order to circumvent landfill tax obligations. Its not rocket science If they could compact it into briquettes and sell it as fuel they would but I don't think it works like sawdust .

Not saying you are wrong but I could come up with an equal comment about a caravan site near me - I'd be wrong though.
