I was listening on the news about mag fishing and folk think it should be stopped, finding things like this will help that happen a lot i reckon.
Cant see it being a problem Gazza with these bombs/grenades being down there. jut when they get dug up maybe.
I wonder how many times dredgers have dug these up without knowing.

I'd have lobbed the bugger back in if it were me No risk of a dredger fetching it up - they are rare as hen's teeth! Old Berky the weed cutter would be an alarming prospect though! www.berky.de/657-Weed-harvester-model-6540.htmlIt would take the edge off the cutting arm!

I have been magging with large neo magnets for 15 years. When I started they were quite expensive (£150 for a 3 inch dia by 1.5 inch thick magent which I mounted inside a 76mm brass shell casing. Diy job. I still have "the beast' but it does not get used much these days. Too many idiots about with magnets now. I've had 11 hand grenades out but every one of them has gone back in. They are designed to be thrown so I do that. Why waste police time ? Yes I do think a ban is coming. Of course its already against bylaws but as kris knows crt have issues with enforcing bye laws

A grenade is only dangerous if its fused, the old Mills bomb is base fused, the modern ones have the detonator incorporated with the lever. So if the bottom has a big hole in it, or if there is no lever then its safe as a brick. The explosive filling can't be initiated by hitting it, burning it, or magneting it.
I would guess that any you find are inert practice ones, or replicas, its highly unlikely that a live grenade would end up in the canal. Certainly no one was chucking them about here in WW2.

Given your estimation of low likelihood, perhaps, next time he finds one, our magnetfishist should post it to you for inspection?
