www.edp24.co.uk/features/essex-backwaters-the-landscape-and-people-1-5778433When actor and film-maker David Webb, together with broadcaster and Backwaters enthusiast, developed this latest project it neatly dovetailed with Ransome’s eighth book, Secret Water and so his new dvd is titled Walton’s Secret Water, exploring the Backwaters of Essex; 7,000 acres of inlets, streams, navigable water and parcels of land.

thanks for posting that Gazza ..... I hadn't heard about it ..... I must try and get a copy.
Walton Backwaters is one of my favourite spots. Anchor in Landamere creek or creep up towards Bramble Island and you seem to be the only person in the world ..... just you and the wildlife. Or visit the beaches in|the Walton Channel opposite the Dardanelles (although this area is quite often visited in the summer by boaters for barbecues)

Great! yet more tourists coming to Pin Mill! I doubt I'll be one of them. Despite having bought a little colvic 20 in January vaguely planning to have a look round the east coast I suspect it will be mostly used on the upper Thames which is my own "stamping ground" It does sound like an interesting area to have a look at. I'd like to have a run down that way next spring then back up to Cookham and Henley but for some reason I think it may not happen . I'll probably end up going up to Lechlade again to get away from it all instead.

I don't blame you - although a mid winter visit would work. Summertime it's as bad as Dedham or Southwold...........

I don't fancy a run down the tideway in mid winter as its a small boat and just me. Boat is other side of Molesey lock at the moment which is closed until January for major gate works. Mind you a spring trip might be pleasant
