Is that the elsan in the pub as you leave (heading south) Berkhamsted?
Can't remember its name.

They do, on the notifications if you're signed up for them. C&RT deserve a good kicking regularly, but in fairness it's not them that block elsans, and if no one reports the problem, how can they arrange to sort it. I truly have no idea how, in normal use anyone can block an elsan. It's a gift! Rog Answer from CRT today, make of it what you want. No answer as to whether they notify boaters about this one (it's shown on the CRT maps).
Thank you for getting in touch. The elsan in the corner of the pub carpark is the responsibly of the pub management and not the trusts to maintain.
yes they are good at shirking responsibility. I wonder if the pub know it's responsible.

Last time I was there, they had two boats on permanent moorings on their land.
I used the elsan, although I was told by one of the boaters that it was a private facility.
I said it was marked in Nicholson's so as far as I was concerned it was a public C&RT facility.
Sounds like it is private.

Rog I don't believe so, a notice on it says it's for the sole use of CRT customers/licence holders (can't remember exact wording). The Spar/garage by the water point and pub car park look reasonably newly developed (10 yrs or so). Hope this isn't a sell off of land without putting in adequate responsibilities...

Some els an disposal facilities have transfer pumps which can not deal with any sort of "wipes" and my personal view is that they also can not deal with heavy toilet paper. When I suggested this to someone who regularly had to deal with a failed elsan pump he just said "well you can't really tell people what to wipe their arse with". Fair enough. The worst things are flushable wipes. A bit of a random situation but I was down near Dartford (Crayford creek) on foot fairly recently and have first hand visual of the "flushable wipe" problem. This was just one random day a few weeks ago. Photo is of some sort of drainage overflow. Not nice All part of an oil based economy. Maybe once we get a Lithium based economy we can look forward to a better future but with less ecosystems.

To be honest Al this is the sort of thing you are going to have to deal with. If you don't like it get a caravan and it won't happen.
Or maybe it will?
Hope you don't mind me calling you Al by the way

I think the sani station at the pub in Berko has been closed for five years ever since the pub said it was nothing to do with them. It was filled with gravel at one point to prevent it being used.

Yes, I used the water by the garage (bacon sandwich too I recall) and the elsan. It's jenlyn's back yard ... I bet Steve will know what's what. Rog

I'll report back in an hour or so once I've done some further research but my betting is boaters have lost a long standing facility. Blocked elsans are one thing but it's worth highlighting cases where development may have caused loss of facilities over time - if only to help others trying to make sure adequate provisions are thought about during other developments. I might yet be totally wrong though.

That looks like a 'Consented Overflow', Consented to let untreated foul water into watercourses to eliviate flooding people's houses with shity water.

I expect it was something like that. Draining into a tidal creek near Dartford on the Thames. I was quite shocked by the sheer volume of "flushable wipes" which is why I took the photo. Looks like it hasn't been in use for a while but then it has been a remarkably dry summer to be fair.

All I've been able to find out is that the car park was extended around about 1998 with planning consent but no conditions about the elsan mentioned (Dacorum council doesn't seem to publish anything other than 'decisions' so unable to check whether boaters objected to the planning or not). I find it very strange that a pub would voluntarily install an elsan point in the corner of their car park for the free use of passing boaters. Unless otherwise informed I suspect this was a long standing elsan point that somehow CRT transferred responsibility to the pub without having put adequate safeguards for the facility to remain open to boaters. This was my suspicion at the time of visiting and why I posted.
Would be happy to be proved wrong though.

Any ordinary toilet will do, but as I said, take a couple of 5 litre water containers along to flush the cassettes. There are many toilets available at CRT Headquarters in Milton Keynes, just pop along there with the mobile bog in your hand. I understand Mr Parry's throne is gold-plated.
