Last year when we did the river Wey we stopped at Dapdune Wharf in Guildford, as you do, and I popped into the little charity book shop they have. I picked up 3 old copies of waterways world. 1 from 1986 and 2 from 1988.
So 30 years old.
Anyway I have been browsing the magazines. Its impressive how much things have changed but at the same time other things have remained the same.
The most noticeable thing obviously is that all the adverts say "send for colour brochure" rather than a webshite.
Anyway just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else has done some time travel recently.
Other than going on a boat on a canal. That's time travel by definition but there are other ways !

edit to add, there is a great description of the team work needed for "Work In Down-Hill Locks" with a motor and a butty. I believe this may be a standard "woman problem". If it was a bloke he'd happily take the motor and butty down the locks efficiently and quietly (apart from the clonkclonk of the engine) by himself and never be concerned with book writing.

Yes I have to admit its okay. Quite informative and as it is written from the "other side of the fence" it exposes some things which may otherwise have remained hidden. And some writers license. But overall pretty good.
