I'm just trying to remember wants on lieu time.
we have travel power connected to a massive alternator.
only two I think.
pur travelpack was connected to a charger but the electric man took it out. seems it was put in when am altonator stopped working.
alternator replaced. however every time we go to the boat it has flat batteries. must check next time what is in place to charge batteries when connected to shoreline.
you made me think now. need to pop up and fill with diesel.

We have one alternator which charges: the starter battery if switch is in position 1 / both leisure batteries AND starter if switch is in position BOTH / leisure batteries only if switch is in position 2.
We have a batteries charger which will charge starter/leisures/both starter + leisures (depending on main switch setting), and this works with 240v shore power.
We have a 350W inverter which is connected directly to the batteries and turns 12v into killer 240v, and this is sufficient for charging small items such as phones/laptop computer/camera.
Simple, eh?
However, from TB advice, I have asked for a switch to be put on the cable leading from the batteries to the inverter, as I don't like the fact that it is 'live' all the time (it's still on even though the Main witch is set to OFF). Switch to be put on next time we get to the boat. It's just an extra safety precaution, and I'm surprised the BSS doesn't have this as a standard demand.

Forgive me donkey (hate calling you that) but are you still charging service batteries on gazza's 'dirty' fix of a jump lead from the starter?

Rog Yes, although a call to MM has given me another avenue to explore tomorrow. Time to turn the engines off for tonight - neighbours know I have problems with charging so don't mind too much about the late running.
Don't worry about the donkey thing it's been a life long affliction Call me Andy if you must!

You need a lovely Victron Cyrix 120 to stop you needing to twiddle your knob - it will look after your batteries for you. Your setup is similar to ours (tiny inverter aside) - and in fact we have been through this before, taking a small part of the human bean input out of the equation is a good idea at times.

Glad gazza (and others) could get you out of the cack long enough to get things sorted. You'll look back on this in years to come, with great affection, proud of how far you've come. Doesn't help today of course. Prefer Andy Rog

Sorted I wonder if that is something Beta Marine would allow under warranty? Looks a tad dodgy maybe that's why there was no belt on it.

Just try not to become an oil-change fetishist. As you may know, we're in www.warmshowers.org (free accommodation for long distance cyclists), and I am baffled by some who have turned up here, cycling perhaps from Italy to Nord Kapp, with dry chains because they're not sure if they should put oil on them! You do know that there are alternatives to oil that don't attract grit and dirt don't you. Come near my bike chain with the old 3 in 1 oil and you would likely get a mouthful from me.
Signed former long distance cyclist.
