How efficient it is, or how much power it develops isn't clear. But something like this could be interesting.

It would be great for powering an Ecofan!
But yes, I think it is a better solution than thermoelectric cells, but of course much bigger and more complex.

I look at those posts on you tube ..... unfortunately I have neither the time nor the engineering facilities/skills to build a Stirling engine myself. One day maybe a kit, or a made up one of a sensible size/price will come along for me to play with. All the ones I have seen are either way too big/pricey or merely toys.

Yes a kit would be a good idea, this one seems to produce about 50w. The problem with rocket stoves of this design is you can only burn wood.

I've seen rocket stoves that use pellets, and even waste oil. Peter.

I've made quite a few small rocket stoves for cooking on. I've been thinking of making another small one to have on the boat as an emergency cooker.

If it's to use ON the boat, that would be alright, but not inside unless you'll have a good chimney that exhaust the combustion gas outside, and if possible to make it so that the rocket stove will be having it's own outside air supply too, as they do use quite a lot of oxygen. No Peter its to use on the towpath, but keep on the boat in case of needing to use it . Rocket stoves are efficient and you only need. A few sticks to boil a kettle or cook a meal. Ideal for use when the gas has run out.

But it's on the to do list.

I know those lists, I have a fairly high pile laying around, all I do (for the time being) is change their position in the pile, but one day I really have to do something about it, as it's not getting me anywhere, making "to do" lists without doing whats written on them. Success with working on the jobs of your list. Peter.
