They are in East-the Water, opposite Bideford. Not sure if that makes a difference.

"Was reading yesterday in the Western Morning News about a family who lived aboard somewhere around Bideford. Seems they have just lost a court case and will now be charged council tax + backdated tax. The case revolved around them spending more than a year on the same mooring and even though they had no facilities apart from the use of a hose pipe to fill up with water the council decided that they were residents and should pay the tax. Seems that a precedent has been set and could be a concern to others in a similar situation." www.ybw.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-307587.html

There used to be a few spots around the Devon coast with people living on boats, but they seem to be dissapearing.

There are much nicer places nearby (Appledore, Instow etc) Appledore is a ghost village in the winter, virtually every cottage is a holiday home. Instow is better and has a decent pub granted.

We have family nearby and I cant repeat what they say about it. Happy to fill in the gap for you! "I wouldnt vote this the most chaviest town, but this is where all rejected chavs move. Bideford has the highest population of “chav wannabe’s” as most of the population of bideford has not stepped foot off of their front doorstep. Most people have addopted the chav regime as highly popular, and a way to make friends and social groups, without realising that they are also making assholes outof themselves. Chavs (and Crackheads) mainly hang on Victoria Square and a bench near a local off licence, trying to get legals to buy them booze and fags. It may not be the chaviest town, but it has a high population of nobheads and the scum of the earth." "For a short while I was living right next-door to Bideford. I would catch the bus in to town, and there would be a group of malnutritioned smack-heads, with yellow fingers and ripped apart trainers, all hanging around the wall (opposite Wimpy and behind the bus stop). It's sad to see young people who are either full on smack-heads, or filthy scum. From what I could gather about the locals around here, is that hardly any have left the area. Speaking with a few of these scum, one time in a pub, it became apparent that many of them haven't even stepped foot on a train. I hated Bideford and I hope to God that I never go back there again. It's a complete load of sh*t."

Have you not been to The Champ in Appledore then. No food but good music and beer. Or at a push The Beaver Inn. Lots of good small breweries down there (Clearwater, Yelland, ArtBrew) the latter two are great haven't yet visited Clearwater its on my list of places to go.

Been in both but to be honest they were nothing special in my opinion.
