As if the Average Frenchman didn't have enough to contend with, bombed by islamists, still in the depths of recession and now this. Brothels were actually legal at one time in France,we will simply face more poverty more stigmatisation and more violence says a leader of one of the many sex workers unions,My question is whatever happened to negotiation? It is now legal to offer sex for sale but illegal to buy it. Police meanwhile have opposed the changes saying it will be almost impossible to prove any transaction between client and Prostitute has taken place. I hear all the arguments about trafficking of children, slavery etc etc exploitation of women, but seriously is it anyones business what goes on between two adults?where children are involved and coercion by people Traffickers then please " String them up from the rafters" but is this the way to go?do we want this in Britain? How important an issue is this in the current climate? Make love not war said the Hippys, well you can as long as you don't pay for it.

You put the double standards very eloquently,I wonder what drives this anti prostitution agenda? can I say I genuinely have no opinion one way or the other,I never realised there was an issue and no woman I met has ever been distraught by the topic. I fully understand however if you are unfortunate enough to live in a Red Light Area, the nuisance and detrimental effect to quality of life. Was there not some pilot schemes somewhere which moved it to a specified area? In England I believe.

Prohibiting things that are popular never solves anything. How are they going to catch those people traffickers and child pimps now when they've driven the industry underground? How many prostitutes will declare and pay tax on their earnings? Legalise and regulate it would be the way forward. Legal brothels where they check on the health and well being of the girls working there. Less of this reggresive bullshit that governments keep forcing on us.

I reckon sex with my ex wife cost me a hundred times more than sex with any prostitute I've shagged.

It's a strange one. People traffickers come from the spawn of the devil, taking advantage of the poor souls seeking their services, the seekers being seen as innocent of any crime. And: evil drug traffickers do long jail terms for offering drugs to their poor addicted customers.
All well and good.
However with sex everything turns turtle. He or she offering the services is seen as innocent; a victim. Those buying the services are the scum of the earth.
It's a strange world sometimes.

I think prostitution is an evil trade if anybody is forced into it, but if an intelligent and un-coerced woman chooses it as a career option then that should be her right, and it should be the right of her customers to use her services and pay accordingly. As a business arrangement between two consenting adults it is no different to hiring a taxi.

What is this obsession with Prostitution though? is it being driven by a feminist agenda and what is it solving? It is getting a bit like prohibition,if there is a problem with Trafficking then deal with Trafficking and anyway what about our old friend Dominic Strauss Kahn? whats his take on this? lol

Apart from Dominic Strauss Khan looks like the French will do anything to keep Berlesconi from visiting.

Sex has always been considered a terrible and sinful act by those who never get any ;-)

It's known as the oldest profession so I doubt it will disappear but the low-end punters will be the one's to suffer. One way round it that springs to mind would be to rent out rooms, like service flats, that just happen to have a hostess who's there to make tea or coffee or whatever. Or like these students who fund their university education by advertising for sugar daddies who treat them to gifts, dinners, clothes etc. It's the guy enticing into his car, the street-walker who's there to support her or her pimps drug habit who will be targeted.
The wealthier the client, the easier it will be to circumvent the law. Don't the French just shrug and say "C'est la vie" to this sort of thing?
Something does need to be done to tackle the problem of sex-taffickers which I suspect is overwhelming the law enforcers.

You are right A lady I know we will call her Pebbles used to do escort work she was a stunning strawberry blonde she earned 2k a night!!! she was that good. I financed her house, as far as I am concerned what she does with her body is up to her I never have or ever will think any the less of her.

One interesting aspect of this law is that it is only illegal to pay a prostitute, it's apparently not illegal for the girls to charge and collect.
The bottom line on that, of course, is that France will still tax the income this sinful conduct creates. So the state wants to make sure they get their cut, even as they disparage those who engage in the business.

I don't know if you saw the programme the other night on Child Prostitution in California which was notable for having no children and the ladies it did have saying they appreciated the easy money the job gave them. The only children exploited this way in the UK have in the main been white dysfunctional kids by Asian Gangs which again you get the feeling condemnation of this in some quarters is pretty slow and hard to find
