Well as promised (or threatened if you prefer ) here are some pictures from Yesterday on the river Hull. In the morning both of the Humber Keel and Sloop society boats were meant to be locking out into the river but on the run down the Beck the skipper of the Amy Howson found that the prop was loose. They were unable to tighten it while she was in the water so instead of going in convoy with the Comrade they stayed and are booked into the drydock here on Tuesday. SAM_2309 by mudlarker2, on Flickr The dignitaries and visitors were just arriving when I left to go down to the docks in Hull to join the tug. We were booked to standby in case the Comrade needed assistance getting past a large jack up barge in the river. Out of the Docks and up the river Hull on the flood SAM_2311 by mudlarker2, on Flickr past the easiest of the two pinch points, Swinderby and a tanker barge SAM_2320 by mudlarker2, on Flickr through the really tight bit alongside the massive jack up barge (note the bottom of the barge is about level with the roof of the tug.) SAM_2321 by mudlarker2, on Flickr not a very good shot as the sun was at the wrong angle SAM_2322 by mudlarker2, on Flickr plenty of room past the Paragon SAM_2323 by mudlarker2, on Flickr under the next bridge and by then we had got ahead of the tide and we stopped and waited for Comrade. SAM_2325 by mudlarker2, on Flickr we turned and led her down through the first bridge ( by this time the water had risen enough for her to need the bridge lift. It's a double bridge for the dual carriageway) SAM_2326 by mudlarker2, on Flickr and on punching the tide to the pinch point the skipper of the barge went for it on his own and it looked ok ...... at first SAM_2335 by mudlarker2, on Flickr one of the crew on the bow put a tyre down to take any impact on the starboard bow. it caught on some sharp rebar sticking out and was dragged along the bow and jammed into the leeboard flipping it up and partly onto the deck SAM_2336 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_2337 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_2339 by mudlarker2, on Flickr Even with the leeboard removed and swung onto deck (20 odd minutes work with chain blocks and strops) it was ....... tight SAM_2343 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_2345 by mudlarker2, on Flickr SAM_2346 by mudlarker2, on Flickr
