A new group- ‘Friends of Waterman’s Park’ - has been set up to ‘protect’ Waterman’s Park in Brentford, though the emphasis of the protection appears on superficial sight to be more protective of land based views than of boaters. The River Thames Society has objected to recently published ‘Non Material Amendments’ for the scheme (the planning consent for which expires next month if work has not been started), saying, inter alia -
“. . . the Operational Management Plan as filed would permit the mooring of “river worthy vessels ... in the opinion of management” rather than navigable and of vessels up to 8m wide with no height restrictions.”
“The Friends Group say they have concerns that extra-wide multi-storey houseboats of up to 30m in length would dominate and block the view from the park and have an impact on the River not considered in the planning modelling.”
8 mtrs x 30 mtrs by whatever height you like - sky's literally the limit.
Perhaps needless to say, none of the boats which have occupied the area for many years will be likely to qualify for a berth on the multi-million pound (but ridiculously flawed) scheme. The aim seems to be to fill the herringbone pontoons with non-navigable floating homes of epic proportions. Just maybe suitable for the chap recently featured in the latest CaRT eviction attempt, though whether he could afford what will be astronomical fees is dubious.
