The good weather this summer has been in short supply so far, yesterday was good however and it also coincided with a great Historical
Event which was free to visit and witnessed by not as many people as you would think.I am talking of the emergence of the worlds longest
Aircraft from its Hangar yesterday at Cardington near Bedford.
The Airlander10 a plane_airship hybrid was piloted out of the biggest Hangar in the UK early yesterday morning and was on display for most
of the morning so with Jim from the Widebeam next door and his two kids squeezed into the back seats off we went. The craft has cost £25 million
and tests on its engines, generators and systems were carried out last week and this week will commence the testing of the ground systems with
the date of the Maiden Flight due to follow. British Company HYBRID AIR VEHICLES have spent the last nine years developing this Prototype after
the US army ran out of money to develop it as a surveillance machine though obviously it has many other uses.
This of course marks the return of the Great Airships to Cardington, the first since the 1920, many of you may be familiar with the R101 disaster
which effectively finished Airships as a means of Transportation. The Airlander10 I should add is filled with Helium rather than the more unstable
Hydrogen.Well there you have it,a British Company has brought the Airship back to Cardington after 100 years and in many ways we have English
Heritage to thank for having the foresight to seek Historical Listing for the Two Hangars, because it couldn't have happened otherwise.
The kids were starting to get bored so back into the car and up to another beautiful spot, Abingdon Park in Northampton for an Ice Cream from the
Famous Gallones Ice Cream Van, and into the Park itself for a sit down. This is a beautiful Park and Northamptonshire Council should be congratulated
for their maintenance and management,Tony Ansell has a very reasonably priced cafe with a good menu and there is everything from shady spots
to tennis courts, a museum and even an Aviary full of various fowl and birds, everything from Peacocks to the common Budgie and plenty people
enjoying them whilst relaxing in the sunshine. Its great to see that life has continued in spite of all the post brexit doom and gloom and the various
atrocities throughout Europe, all we have to do now is persuade these seaside Land Ladies to get their prices down so we can get the kids out to
Norfolk for a week because you cant beat England in the Summer.
