We remember a foreign bloke who suggested where we could park 4 years ago - ah, so this was Pedro... he seemed OK to us, quite cheery.
There are whales living in the canal at the end of the arm into the town itself - where do you think Whaley Bridge got its name from??!!

I was frozen in at Bugsworth a man kept on coming teice a day to tell me I had to move!! I very nearly put him under the ice to show him how thick it was!! apparently he does this to everybody self appointed mooring officer or what? <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 36.840000000000146px; height: 2.9200000000000017px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 15px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_44446605" scrolling="no" width="36.840000000000146" height="2.9200000000000017"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 36.84px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1769px; top: -5px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_82059154" scrolling="no" width="36.840000000000146" height="2.9200000000000017"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 36.84px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 15px; top: 87px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_77753352" scrolling="no" width="36.840000000000146" height="2.9200000000000017"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 36.84px; height: 2.92px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 1769px; top: 87px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_74274347" scrolling="no" width="36.840000000000146" height="2.9200000000000017"></iframe> Pedro is not self appointed but is appointed by the Bugsworth Basin Trust who police the basin on behalf of CRT. If staying longer than 48 hours then encouraged (expected) to make a reasonable donation to BBT although when frozen in I would have expected some discretion.
I should add that on the occasions I have overstayed (and donated) I have not had a problem. He was self appointed I spoke to staff and they said he goes around bothering everybody, they wernt bothered we were there for a week near the pub which isnt a bad place to be luckily we had filled up with water at the entrance, the day we got there it had done all the weather and was snowing heavily as we moored up, it was late April by then!!

You can sometimes moor in the basin behind my old day hire boat 'Phoenix'. It's a bit noisy from the road but other than that not a bad spot, not dark and dismal with a steady procession of 'yoofs' like the very few visitor moorings. Beware of Stuart on the coal boat though, he thinks he owns this spot for 2 weeks out of every 4, either tells folk "it's a loading wharf; I have priority" or if you're not there he'll move your boat for you. If you see him, tell him he's a twat of the highest order, from me.

Perhaps he could be reported to CRT if he really is a twat? Or perhaps Pedro will give him a kick in the gonads.

I did think about reporting him but it's not in my nature, so haven't. He spends 2 weeks at the basin then 2 weeks at Higher Poynton, has done for at least 6 years. Tells CRT he has a mooring in Chester, which hasn't existed since flats were built there 10 years ago. I'm generally a live and let live type but his attitude to others overrides that. Still, can't bring myself to report him.

We always make a donation when staying as we love the place so much our boat is even named after Bugsworth. The warden there is so helpfull and keeps a watchful eye on things without any fuss maybe places like this need someone on site as the facilities and grounds are immaculate. It is going back to being ran by CRT soon.

AS was the chair of the Trust - Ian I think he was called... smashing bloke ... mid 80s but still working really hard at keeping the place looking good... It's a credit to them all and we look forward to going back at some point.

So it turns out his name is Pablo. Lovely chap. I am here for a few nights until Ali returns. Donation made, permit in window to allow for extended mooring time.
