how the hell did they manage that one ? and why is the lock full ? Why is the lock full is definately the question. Surely you'd drain the lock so you can pump the boat out? Depends how long after the incident the picture was taken. If the boat caught on the cill and sank it would be further submerged if the lock re filled due to leaky gates and paddles.

Photo posted on canal world shows one of the ground paddles raised. I think it might have been a GRP vessel so may have been at risk of breaking if left on the cill. Better to keep it sunk without the load on the stern ie with lock filled.
