"Rusty Russ
Thank you to everyone for your comments and offers of help. Myself and a few friends managed to move our friends boat 'Me and My Girl' from Fradley Junction to King's Orchard Marina, where we received a warm welcome. I want to thank the local folk who tried to help my friend on Tuesday afternoon after he collapsed. Giving him CPR and contacting the emergency services. I also want to thank the guys from CaRT who helped us reverse the boat at Fradley Junction back towards Coventry Canal. That was not an easy manoeuvre and they were fantastic. And to my dear friend Nigel, may you rest in peace!"

I think Patty read that as being Jenlyns freind. Either way it’s a fellow boater having problems so it’s nice that Patty cares along with other boaters. So no, it’s not rubbish. I missed Foxy's response..I think... Patty, you just know you didn't miss much. Phil

Sad affair, but perhaps good to die in harness rather than hospital.
How many have their cpr ticket here? I've kept mine topped up through work. The last refresher we did AED use. Used some toy gizmo that goes through the voice prompts etc that a real machine would. I'm now fundraising for a wall mounted aed to go outside Skylight Circus Arts building, for us and the surrounding area.

We've had the defibrillator discussion here before. I am still of the opinion that for CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) you really need some experience to be able to do it properly, like a dentist who has pulled out 100 wisdom teeth and knows what they are doing.
I think members of the public faffing about with a defib unit (once you can get it out of the locked box on the wall!) will see the patient already dead. Your heart stops and you've got 2 minutes before you turn into a vegetable. The helper has got 2 minutes to get the breathing and heart pounding in a reasonable rhythm.
Also, as seen on TV, blowing into someone's mouth after you've fished them out of the canal is not going to help unless you've first turned them over to let the water pour out of their lungs.
I wonder how many people CPR actually helps - the percentages. Of course I'd help, although I may be hesitant if they are ugly or have lip sores.

Apparently it says on the box, "Leave cynics to die, society is better off without". I'd prefer someone to try and get me going again thanks. Obviously Foxxy hasn't done the training or he'd know different, the instructions are clear and simple, designed to be followed by anyone but a migrant. To access the box dial 999 and tell them the box number and location and they give you the pin for the lock. There have been no instances of abuse. Of course Mr Stabby is well practiced, having to reinflate Shania regularly, though I dread to think where her valve is.

Yes, I have been on a few First Aid courses, got the certificates. It's another thing to actually be there and have to do something, not easy to remember everything when the clock is ticking and the heart has stopped ticking.

Of course the patient may be technically dead, that's the point of resuscitation and aeds. A chance to play Jesus, bring them back to life. Just be careful the cynics don't nail you to a cross.

Not at all grudgingly in this case Jim - you obviously haven't read my earlier posts. I thought those would be my last words as this is Jenlyn's thread and a serious subject, and that a discussion about CPR/First Aid isn't appropriate here (and anyway, that subject has been discussed earlier, a year ago or so).
