“Filming has been taking place over the last week in Brentford for Zomboat!, a new series from ITV2 and Hulu which will premiere this Autumn. When the zombie apocalypse is unleashed, sisters Kat and Jo, together with unlikely travel companions Sunny and Amar, must flee for their lives… by canal boat. The action is supposed to be taking place in Birmingham but has actually been filmed in waterways around the Brentford area. Jo has just returned from a season as a club rep and has decided to move back in with younger sister Kat, a computer game addict who buys into every conspiracy theory around. Jo struggles to take her sister seriously when Kat claims the zombie apocalypse is real and happening, right now. Alongside gym bunny Amar, the upbeat and ready to face things head on character and his oldest friend Sunny, a wannabe misanthrope who’d rather sit out the apocalypse from the comfort of his sofa, Kat, Jo, Sunny and Amar find themselves trapped together on board Dorothy, a narrow boat on the Grand Union canal. As they journey along the canal in their tightly packed living quarters, friendships develop, alliances form, arguments occur and romance blossoms. Along the way, they realise there is no escaping the problems of everyday life, even in a zombie apocalypse.” www.brentfordtw8.com/default.asp?section=info&page=filming003.htm

A canal boat as a means of escaping zombies has a slightly unrealistic feel about it...but then I suppose with subject matter being zombies anything goes...

Gym bunny is the very worst word/phrase/descriptor in the English language. I hate it with a passion.

If it is supposed to be taking place in Birmingham, you wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult to film it in Birmingham. Presumably the London set are horrified at the thought of spending time in some provincial dump.

Totally destroys the realism of a zombie apocalypse for me ... filming it in London.

Moving away from the eu-loving clown and back to the subject in question, I found this quote...
'Mortimer told ITV: “ITV2 is committed to comedy for younger audiences and we’re delighted to partner with Hulu and Noho Productions to add this fantastically high-concept, home-grown comedy adventure series to our slate.” '
I'm wondering whether this will do anything to popularise narrowboating among these younger audiences, and if it does what the effects might be on an activity more traditionally associated with senile old oxygen thieves?

Is it likely to be popular with young 'gamers' bearing in mind the limitations within narrow boats of internet signals and electricity ?
And of course, the apparent lack of any kind of apocalypse let alone a zombie one ?

I think my boys are slap bang in the middle of the target audience for this so I'll ask them for feedback although they are very narrowboat knowledgeable so I imagine that as with most cases when people watch a TV drama based on their occupation or some activity with which they are over-familiar, they will be sitting there saying "That doesn't happen, that isn't how you do that, that isn't Birmingham" etc etc etc.
