Well in just over an hour our brave Lionesses take on the mighty USA. You'd have to say the Septic Tanks are favourites to win, they've won the World Cup five tines and never finished outside the top three, women's football is massive in the States. I've stocked up on kitchen towel, ice and Ralgex but I'm hoping it will be an injury-free game.

The yanks are streetwise and bring a lot of the bad things from the men's game like "earning" penalties and feigning injury to break the opposition's momentum if they are on the up. They'll win no doubt but if they do I predict a hollow victory - they don't respect the spirit of the game to the extent the other teams do. More fool the other teams?

Looks like the yanks have 12 players. Ref seems to be playing for them.

Ellen White looks like Jamie Vardy, in more ways than one.

We had our chances. Just as well it didn't go to penalties!

Bit of a gaffe from Phil Neville just now:"we went down to 10 men".

The Lionesses did really well and it was a very close game but the simple fact is that women's football in the USA is in a different league to women's football anywhere else in the world.

Given the tendency for women footballers to be 'rainbow like' in their sexual orientation that would clearly be more than one each. Might go some way to explaining the lack of concentration at times. It was a good effort though, considering.

According to them, rugby tends to attract a higher percentage of lesbians. Football ladies are pretty much a cross section of general society. As I said, this is according to a group of mid twenty year olds who have all played a lot of sport, including football.

I wouldn't say there was a huge difference in skill levels between the teams but the tactics and fitness of USA was clearly better. I'd sum it up by saying USA look like they've been playing the game much longer, and maybe they have.

USA went to pieces for 10 minutes after England equalised. If we'd have got another then it would have been a different game, they really panic if they're not winning. Still by far the better team, their awareness and positioning would put a lot of mens teams to shame.
