I'll just keep with my compost loo, it's easier. I have to clean the raw water flush strainer every now and again - takes about 5 minutes tops, 4 carpet tiles, 1 valve, unscrew the strainer cap, clean, reassembly is reverse of dismantle etc

Its interesting that the EA allow discharge of toilets into the non tidal Nene but the PLA have recently banned it on the tidal Thames. could it be because of the high (and increasing ?) number of residential vessels, many multiple occupancy ? I'm not sure where you are referring to but in case you were thinking of the slum barges they are all on EA water. When the EA tried to tow one of them through teddington lock the PLA stopped them. Maybe you are thinking of further down river. I'm not sure how far down the recent ban goes to be fair.

Byelaw 49
Includes housboats
I think it was a London thing related to the super sewer and cleaning up the River through the city. Seems improbable that one would encounter issues on the creeks. Possible I suppose.

You certainly are not allowed to throw the contents of your bog into lakes or rivers in Finland. just crap behind a tree like the bears? Bear shitting in woods. Rabbit hops along, "morning, nice day, can I squat next to you" so they sat and shat, chatting. Bear says, "can I ask you a personal question" "sure" "do you have trouble with shit on your fur" "no" says Rabbit. So bear picks him up and wipes his arse with Rabbit.

Hello Thunderboaters So, the boatbuilder was going to install me a theford cassette loo, only this isnt happening now, I've been left with a bucket instead. This has led me to look at the options again, I like the idea of incinerating but who has these funds, chimney space and heat power? Pumpout is not an option anymore - dont want one anyway. So this leaves the cassette or the compost loo hey. Thinking if it's compost I would have to go for an electric vented model, install looks fairly easy as well. One of the USP's for this product is it doesn't smell - if this is true I would be happy to pay for this, like the Airhead or alike. Anyone got one? IS THIS TRUE? I'm thinking liquid waste can create a pretty bad smell as well, but have been told if I add vinegar to the container and keep it clean this isn't a problem. Can anyone confirm this? Also, where do you get rid of your poop? It needs emptying say once a month and yet it is at least a 6 month process (if not longer) for it to ferment - so how do you dispose of yours? (Mr Stabby, no need for you to answer this q as I already know your method and I'm still paying a therapist to help me get past this). Thanks. T. I have had six years of composting loos, I have a separate villa and would never go back to pumpout or cassette just to much hard work. I have a composting bin on my moorings so everything goes into it that will make good compost, plenty on the internet about it. Wee gets pumped into a 25 litre container, which means emptying isnt to much of a chore and to often.

Does this mean you can put biodegradable loo paper in the back as well then Kris? Yes I can't see that being a problem, personally I put the paper into a separate bin and burn it on the fire. This is probably more of an old habit though, as I first used compost loos on small holdings where the compost is going on to the land. In the right conditions it doesn't actually take long for your waste to become good compost, but toilet paper takes much longer to break down. This would lead to the situation where you have some lovely compost that you can't tell the origins of except that it's got toilet paper mixed in with it. Obviously not good if your spreading it onto land. Paper is gone in two years Kris which is how long it takes to make proper compost, Like you I used to burn the paper, and use sawdust, but now I use coconut dust its more absorbent and breaks down very well
