Cor !!! what a smashing job !!!This is a totally unbiased report and completely honest and was not coloured in any way by him letting me have a go ...... and buying me lunch !!!
I was truly impressed. He says he has one or two minor bugs to work out of the system but they really are minor.
It is almost unnerving drifting along a canal at a steady 3.5 mph in an almost silent fashion.
It is not totally silent and the noises you do hear are probably there on all boats but hidden by the engine.
There is a steady gurgle of the propeller and slight whirring from the prop shaft (no gear noise as it is direct drive) and lapping noises of the water on the sides ..... and also the annoying click click click of claws as Taff does his war dance from one side of the wheelhouse to the other.
Performance wise it is quite adequate, with decent acceleration and a good cruising speed at only about 1/4 throttle which should give a decent range on batteries alone even when there is no sun.
Probably the range wouldn't suit someone who does day after day of dawn to dusk ....... but it is designed for Peter's use and not anyone else's
For Peter's summer cruising pattern of shortish days, with plenty of time for recharging (either solar or whispergen) in the afternoons and evenings it should be perfeck
An impressive job, which to be honest was a step into the unknown that if it went wrong was going to cost him a lot of money
Well done mate !!!
