I may need to leave Jeff and the boat for a few days to go home. Does anybody know what the mooring situation in Ripon is like? Marinas on the river seem either very expensive (York) or designed for short cruisers.

Cant recall the max mooring time now. How long is your boat though? Its doable with a 60 footer but tight.

I didn't do the top bit of the Ouse (Sabina is too big for the lock) but if it's only going to be a few days why not on the visitors moorings at Naburn ? usually lots of room, little shop at the caravan site at the end of the lane (mobile chippy one night a week) also bus service for shopping from main road just outside.

Thanks. 59’ The 'official' stated length for going up to Ripon is 57ft 6 inches, but 60 footers have done it. Cotswoldsman from cwdf diid it in his 60 foot boat. His mate travelling with him though snapped his tiller when it got caught in the lock. Care is required. Its a lovely canal though and Ripon is well worth a visit.

It’s a possibility but with the timings, I think it’s going to be too early outbound, and too late inbound.

Ripon basin is a nice place. Don't know if there's mooring restrictions, if so they are probably managed by a volocky, the word will have spread from the Wigan flight crew by now. Ripon is a lovely town, or is it a city, it has a cathedral with some impressive carved wooden panels. Good shops and cafes where Jeff can eye up the passing trade.

(And apparently one of the smallest one in the UK.)

We’re hoping to go up North again next year but for most of the year this time (band on hold). We’re a 58 footer and managed the Huddersfield broad locks Ok by going in a bit diagonal. I haven’t done the research yet TBH but are there any waterways where 58ft would be a problem? It’s good to note we should be Ok up to Ripon.

Though you will need to do some on your own/diagonally. Tightest (again from memory somebody with more recent knowledge may confirm/refute) will be the Calder and Hebble, The Ouse up to the Ure onto Ripon and Ripon canal itself. Salterhebble Top lock (C&H) is I think about the shortest and some longer boats resort to reversing into the lock, but probably not needed with a 58 footer.

Ripon is 48 hours and is or was policed by some busybody on the council whose home overlooks the basin. Besides the BWML marina there is also Ripon Motor Boat Club or 14 days just above Oxclose Lock. Though that might have changed.

Thanks all. I posted the same question on CWDF at the same time. I got one reply in 8 hours. So I think that is a gold star for TB.
