Every year on the western K&A we have issues of empty pounds.
Now there is lots of talk of someone doing it on purpose. And in previous years culprits have been caught.
Now this summer we have already had pounds in Kintbury, Hungerford, Froxfield, Bath Flight and croften drained by paddles being left up overnight. In fact they are struggling to fill some pounds back up
Is this mirrored across the country?
Of course it does come as no surprise to realise it is the school holiday's, however its also start of the hire boat season.

When we did the KandA a couple of years ago we passed a hire boat that had come up a lock 1/4 mile away. When we got to the lock, we found all 4 paddles fully up! I think in part because a notice on the lock said to open the bottom paddles after use. They obviously forgot to close the top paddles.
So I would not underestimate boaters’ stupidity and carelessness, and perhaps not overestimate the prevalence of deliberate water wastage.

We've already passed loads of unlicenced boats on the K&A.
Excuse me, CRT, can you tell us why we are buying a licence? It seems you are doing very little to nothing about these parasites.

How do you know they are unlicensed? Did you spend all afternoon typing boat numbers into CRT’s on-line licence checker?

How do you know they are unlicensed foxy? No licence displayed in their windows. A requirement. Tatty, filthy, unkempt boats. Go together like a horse and cart. 1 + 1 = 2 (usually).

No licence displayed = breaking terms & conditions = unlicenced or piss taker (= twat).
