i think running generators is becoming the second most annoying thing on the cut (some volockies being the most annoying). It is rare these days to be able to moor somewhere popular and tranquil, and not have a generator running. I’d ban them!
Today took the biscuit, we were moored on T&M at Fradley, at the far end (from the pub) with a couple of boat lengths vacant in front of us. We returned from the pub feeling mellow and enjoying the shade. A boat came up the lock and moored in front of us. Within 5 minutes the generator on the back deck (and hence a few feet from our bow) was started. 2 minutes later the owners and their dog exited the boat, locked it up and went to the pub, generator still running. Presumably its noise annoyed them hence the desire to exit the boat, but never mind the impact on everyone else.
I was sorely tempted to switch it off and then put the ignition switch back on so they would think it had just stopped, but I would have needed one more pint in the Swan to have done that.
As it was, fortunately we had planned to move on anyway as we needed to run the tumble drier if we didn’t want wet bedding tonight, so we upped sticks and departed.

Stop moaning, be proactive and name and shame. Its pointless complaining on here unless you are prepared to do something about it. Al least you could have left a message in spray can on his boat explaining why you moved.

Dumping it in the cut works very well I found, yes, I do sympathise but I will not tolerate it.

Your complaint is about ignorant, inconsiderate people surely.
Whether they're volockies or owners of generators is secondary.
I will be using my generator on Saturday to sit and watch the rugby. I will find somewhere quiet and all alone where no one will be disturbed.
Your opinion of generators will therefore be irrelevant as you wouldn't know whether I had one unless I told you.

My point is that it is a widespread issue, not an issue specific to that boat. Obviously from our point of view, the nuisance wasn’t affected by the presence of absence of the boaters, it is just that it seemed quite ironic that they left the boat very shortly after starting the engine. Anyway, if you have just been cruising, why would you want to run your genny almost immediately after stopping?

I see this conversation has become philosophical, you know, when the tree falls in the forest but did it really make a sound when it came crashing down, as there was no-one around to hear it? Will Rog really be watching the match.... or will he really be taking more pictures of his knees? Who can say?

And in the pub they logged into Thunderboat and are wetting themselves!

There is an increasing cohort of people in society who think they can just do what they like and stuff everybody else.
Im currently on a very nice camhc site and its a lovely warm evening. Taking the dog for a walk an hour ago and within 10 minutes I passed three couples, one on site and two in the beer garden of the nearby pub with music blaring from their phones or bluetooth speakers.
Why the hell people think others share their musical tastes is beyond me. At least the first couple took the hint at my very obvious pause, disapproving scowl and head shake and turned it off.
Buy some headphones you idiots.

Rog Ignorant, inconsiderate people WITH A GENERATOR. Yes. The problem with generators is that it allows such people to readily demonstrate their aforementioned attributes. Obviously I have no problem with you running your generator out of earshot of anyone else. I do feel sorry that you have nothing better to do with your day than watch a bunch of slightly homo-erotic sweaty guys rushing around trying to get a ball (that isn’t even a ball) to the end of a field. Are you sure you’re not a closet gay? And one has to ask why you need to run a genny to watch the telly. Does your boat not have any batteries?

I hate people who bring their boats out of their marina for a few weeks and immediately complain about EVERYTHING. They want everything changing to how they like it. Nobody else's view matters at all because they're the most important, and if they can't have their way they'll scream and scream until they're sick. Oh dam ... did I actually say that out loud Rog
