If I had to use a walk in GP service, I'd move to somewhere they make appointments. Being a bloke, like MM I wait and see if I recover before bothering a doctor, I really don't want antibiotics if my body could become stronger through fighting for itself so when I need an appointment, I do need one fairly promptly and also don't think it's polite to sit in a crowded room of other ill people who might catch whatever I have on top of whatever problems they already have. If I have a cold I avoid my neighbour who has COPD which seems to turn into pneumonia when she gets a cold and she ends up in hospital - an appointment free wait around all day walk-in surgery must be contributory to many similar scenarios. Makes my blood boil when you realise these shitty places are mostly run on a shoestring with as few GPs as possible so Richard Branson can tuck a few more £20's in his wallet. I'd agree with 90% of that... ..............but not being a bloke - and one who hasn't seen a gp in more than 30 years ……………. Quite concur Mr Fleming was a brilliant man but, as ever, people take the p ….. Keep warm, keep well Take care met x

Its not a walk in surgery and you don't have to wait! Three methods are available Turn up early book appointment, leave, then turn up at the appointment time Phone and book a same day appointment if there are any left. Book over the internet and wait at least a week for your appointment. Better than my last GP where it was only phone or internet with at least a 5 day wait unless you were at deaths door. I wait to see how the new surgery operates as I only registered last week. Oh and WTF has Branson got to do with it?

I've used the walk in sort of emergency GP surgery in Corby.I wasn't on their list as I lived in Mkt Harborough at the time. .it was very busy, I was pretty rough having experienced fainting episodes at my dads. Had a raging temp and painful limbs...fortunately ex work colleagues on duty ensured I went through very quick as I suspect the waiting time rather long. Prescribed antibiotics for some nasty bug and home I went. I'd use them again if had to.

Over the last 2 years I have had to use the Walk in Medical centre in Hull. ..... 45 min wait then seen and problem dealt with efficiently. and the Minor Injuries unit in Beverley. Only very short wait before being treated (5 min or less) I have waited much longer in a GPs surgery waiting room when I have had an appointment

Personally I think a GP appointment system that prioritises people who can get up and get to queue at the surgery is a Bat Shit Crazy system. You have to get up and get to the appointment so what's the difference? I'm with donkey on this, what if you can't get up and walk? What if you have young children that need to get to school? Loads of what ifs.

I prescribe to the let your body deal with it theory.
Even with my mental health issues and my knee I've been to the doctors less than 10 times in my whole life.
I don't do ill, I just work through it. Although I am lucky enough to have never had a serious life threatening illness.
Even my kids hardly get I'll, friends of ours gave their kids calpol pretty much everyday. They were always getting ill.
My knee will get better one day but as I have previously said, the doctor's don't care and tell me to go to A&E. The hospital won't do anything until referred by my doctor.

Here in sunny West Lancashire They run the GP drop in centres, the practice nurses and the District nurses - £104M contract, they were the preferred bidder. The District nurses are not happy in my experience, under the cosh to save money that they weren't wasting in the first place

All three practices I've used have been GP run.

Even the GP run surgeries here have to use Virgin Care nurses and are not allowed to do blood tests either - seems like anything that can easily have a price put on it has been hived off for profit. It's bad news.
